I usually HATE those wishlists, but I must say this was one hell of an
imagination. And a very good idea damn it. :)
Many bands did some kind of coreograohy (sp?) for their gigs, so let's
hope DT gets more popular (=more budget for tours) and do this kind of
thing some day. :) LOL, agan it was AWESOME idea for a gig.

I usually hate those lists too, but I had to say something because this idea
has been in my head for a while...
I've never seen a show like that, but would love to. I have a documentary
of old Genesis from the 70's (when they really were prog!), and Peter
Gabriel is in all sorts of costumes. Admittedly, some of them are
outlandish and even silly, but if done right, this sort of thing would be a
great way to start the revitalization of true "Art Rock." And why not let
DT be the forerunners?

Ah yes, that brings a tear to my eye. Only ever saw two shows there, but they were both of my first DT shows for IAW and Awake. It was a sad day when the Ravens came to town. There is even a Sheryl Crow parody that I have a copy of about that. Now there aren't any decent clubs in Baltimore.

I think he does fine with his little niche. One of the few places that will get Metal acts anymore. They also try to do the Monday Night thing during football season.

9:30 is nice. A lot nicer than I thought it was. Now that they actually have acts I want to see there, I can enjoy it. Considering the crowds they get for DT, and the fact that it is bigger than Hammerjacks, I don't see it dying out.

I have a good story about james but its 6 years old back when james still had that awful-stage-presence-thing going on.
I was in my 2nd year of college at the University of pittsburgh, and i went to see The awake show at a club called "metropol". This was the first time i had heard that kevin left, and i saw a weird looking dude behind the keys, who i later realized was derek. By the way, during the show derek never took the cues from johnP as to when to switch gears in the music, John got pretty upset cause dereks head was always down looking at the keyboard..not him or mike. anyways......it was during "the silent man" when a very upsetting thing happened on stage. James was seated on a stool in front of mikes set when he suddenly got his hair caught in mikes toms, and freaked out! He was like " My hair is stuck! My hair is stuck! Stop the music! hey guys stop!" The song came to a none-to-graceful stop and john P had to help the "wimpy" singer get his hair unstuck from the drum set...and they started right with the solo part of the " the silent man" and continued.
I had seen them the year before on the I&W tour, and james was pretty cool, of course this was when kevin was still with the band. I wondered if the presence of Derek and the loss of Kevin during recordingf affected james, or if he was having a bad night. Needless to say, i wasn't impress with james display of pussiness....i of course would've just ripped my fucking hair out of the set and gotten over this....oh well, it WAS the AWAKE tour, and really cool to see them play the whole album..excpet for space dye vest....

"mmmmmmm.......two Warr Guitars"
Not to mention Tony Geballe. Should be a great show.

That DT show in 94 was the first time I saw them live (I missed the previous 4 or 5 area shows on the I&W tour). It was also my first of two visits to Hammerjacks (second was for Iron Maiden in 1996).

I heard a few weeks ago that there will be another Hammerjacks. Then.....I was flipping through the Baltimore City paper last night and saw a full page ad for the new Hammerjacks to "open soon". Didn't see any other details. Does this mean that the Baltimore metropolitan area will once again be plastered with Hammerjacks bumper stickers?

I hope the 9:30 sticks around long enough for the 2 King Crimson shows in November =)
*sigh*
Just looking at the concert schedules at disciplineglobalmobile.com today makes my concert going itinerary look like this (hopefully....need some $$$$$):
Trey Gunn 9/16 (Baltimore) California Guitar Trio 9/23 (Philly - 2 shows) Fates Warning 11/4 or 11/5 (Richmond or Springfield, VA) Tony Levin 11/5 and/or 11/6 (Springfield, VA or Annapolis, MD) King Crimson 11/7, 11/8 - DC King Crimson 11/?? and 11/?? - Philly
After that I don't think I'm getting anything for anyone for x-mas....as I will be broke :-)

Umm, I'm not sure if this was meant seriously or not; it was on VH1's confidential is a theory, and even Bob Marley experts said that it was almost totally impossible to inject melanoma.

Are you talking about Dragon Attack that came out in 97? JP plays on Another One Bites the Dust, and Mike did the engineering on both of Jame's tracks(Sheer Heart Attack and One Vision). I normaly don't like tribute albums, but this one is an exception. I listen to it more than my actual Queen CD's.

Okay, I just got the new DVD, and I have the old one too, and here are the differences.
- Much better picture and sound - New commentray by Spinal Tap (in character, as opposed to the Criterion version which had the actors talking) - New interview with Marti Di Bergi - TV commercials - a couple new music videos - Appearance on the Joe Franklin Show
Also, the band comments during the menus. Like, "Subtitles? So you can hear what Shit Sandwhich sounds like in Spanish?"
The deleted scenes have been polished too, but there are no new ones. In fact, the deleted scenes with the STD/opening band sub-plot aren't even on this new one.
I'd say the "completist" should have both. It's definitely worth it if you can get it for a good price. Best Buy had it for 20 bucks.

Two brilliant prog bands from Finland - Alamaailman Vasarat and Höyry-kone - will be playing at the Orion Sound Studios on October 14. If I was you, I'd be there! :) Both bands are amazing live...
http://www.vasarat.com -- you can listen to soundsamples and I recommend watching the "kebab tai henki" (kebab or life) video ;-) it's their "hit" song... i've been to pretty many gigs and I can honestly say that the crowd at Alamaailman Vasarat gig was the craziest ever (with 3-4 people - women too! - crowdsurfing even during mellow parts)...
http://www.sci.fi/~hoyrykon/ - no sound samples but other info. if you like Anekdoten, you will like this. they do a cover version of Maiden's "The Trooper" :-)
GO THERE!!!

In response to a message regarding the decline of Dallas area rock clubs, I replied directly with my response. He seemed to think that it should be posted to the Jam as well, for all to see...so here it is:
Boy, talk about a flashback! I've been living in Colorado for the past 4 years, but I was living near Dallas when Images and Words came out. I used to listen to Q102 play PMU (and later, Take the Time) as I drove up to Wichita Falls each morning for a project I was working on.
My first DT concert was also the I&W show at the Agora. I spent the entire evening on the rail behind the sound man. What a great show. My best friend and I just went to a show in Denver (second time this tour), and we were commenting on how much things had changed since that night at the Agora (Agora was his first DT show also). We were WAY back from the stage in order to have something to lean on. Not quite the "intimate" club setting of old.
I used to go to the Basement around early 1988...I saw a few bands like Kansas, Black Oak Arkansas and a good Led Zep cover band. I was usually too drunk to remember much during those days. Last time I was down at the West End a year or so back, it looked like it was still closed.
DCL...I was at that one too! I was a huge King's X fan by this point, but I hadn't really heard much about the Galactic Cowboys, other than that they were connected somehow. Monty and Dane were too hilarious that night. I rushed out and picked up Space in your Face the next day. Still like them to this day. I don't have the new (last?!) one...but I thought At the End of the Day was really good. Anyway...I got there really early, so we ate at that restaurant in the parking lot, and headed back over to the car. I bumped into John Myung walking towards the entrance. I greeted him briefly, got an autograph and shook his hand. He talked (yes, talked) to me for a minute or so and scooted inside. I was blown away...after all, this was still just the first summer that I had started listening to them...I had no idea how personable they could be. The DT show didn't sound very good that night, at least compared to the Agora. The delayed echo (slapback) from that huge blank wall of the c! ! lub opposite the stage was driving me nuts. It made everything sound so muddy. I still really enjoyed the show.
The last DT show I saw in Dallas was at Deep Ellum Live during the Awake tour. Fates Warning opened for them...although I had no clue who they were at that point. I kept commenting to my friend how damn much like Geoff Tate the lead singer sounded. I was impressed...but not as much as the DT show. Derek was just getting started, and messed up some of the better Moore lines...but it still kicked ass. I'm sure the DEL is still open. It seems that area is still alive and kicking these days.
Did all this really happen nearly 10 years ago (o.k....8)?!! I can't believe how time flies. Those were so much simpler times.
On a better note, it seems that Denver is starting to support more and more new hard rock clubs. The Fillmore, where DT has played the last 2 times is the largest of these (3000? capacity). Fantastic place, albeit a little impersonal. But there is a great little 1500 cap. theater called the Ogden that DT played during the FII tour. Recently, I caught Perfect Circle there...sounds great hearing a band play a small club.
Thanks for kicking in the synapses.
