    Hey Neil,

Consider spending another $100, and go for the Mesa Boogie 20/20 (it's
tube). I also use a Voodu Valve, and have been playing it thru Rocktron
Velocity 150 for about 5 years, until I started recording and really noticed
how brittle my tone was. So I tried out a 20/20 and was floored by how much
better it sounds. Much thicker and smoother tone - no more harsh
recordings! The real difference is in the feel and sustain - you really
need to play thru both solid state and tube power amps to understand the
difference. And it's plenty loud - it's more than twice as loud as my 150 -
which doesn't make much sense, but Mesa Boogie's marketing hype is not just
hype - try it out and see. BTW - the 150 is an old model - actually one of
the original velocity power amps that I bought back in 94. They
discontinued that model a while ago, so if any of the newer ones sound/feel
better, I wouldn't be able to tell you.

Bottom line - IMHO - tube power amps make all the difference. I'm newly
converted, and can't believe what I've been missing for the last few
years... The Voodu Valve and 20/20 make a killer combination. BTW, I play
thru 2 Rocktron 112 cabinets (they sound great and they're very portable -
easy for gigs ) so you can tell I was very Rocktron biased... I noticed a
large Mesa Boogie bias to this list, but have since discovered that it's
very well placed. Mesa kicks major ass - even their bottom end entry...
(There's a good pun in there somewhere)

    Can I have a hallelujah? :-)

Feel free to send me any questions you might have.

    Paul

Yo guys.... another lurker over here =3D)

Before the subject inquirie to the jam, a question regarding the Roseland
DVD. Will it be released in VHS format? I know that it will last prolly
more than 4 hours, what about a 3 VHS set ? =3D) I think that some of us
jammers still dont have DVD players, they are quite expensive over here
(Asuncion, Paraguay). Well.. I hope the guys do it.

    Ok, my question here:

My band (you can look at my sig for the mp3 url) will enter the studio
(again), to finish recording our first CD. We are in the heavy, kinda
melodic stage right now (again, you can listen the sample in mp3.com,
plug, plug ! Besides, the lyrics are in spanish, you could learn a word or
    two.)

The fact is, the studio is a cheap one. We will pay "x" ammount of money
for the recording + mixing + mastering process.

The recording will be done to a Tascam DA-88. Our engineer does all the
mixing on his computer (?! Dunno if this is the right thing to do).

We finished the first 3 tracks, and the results weren't what we expected.
Dunno why, since Im kinda new in to the studio enviroment. Specially with
the rythm guitars. They sounded too weak, thin, if you know what I mean.

I would REALLY APPRECIATE any suggestions regarding the
    recording/mixing/mastering process.=20

First of all w/ the miking of guitars, you know. I think the standard are
SM-57s, which we will use. How would you mike the amp to get the maximum
crunchyness (sp?), thickness and heaviness of the rythm guitars ? This one
    is my main concern.=20

    And for the solos ?

We will have a pretty limited set of gear avaliable, including :

    - 2 Stratos, an Ibanez Jem, a Gibson LP, and my Ibanez Custom 540 S.=20
    - JCM 900
    - On the distortion department, I use a korg ToneWorks G2 distortion unit,
and the other guitarist, uses a Strato w/ Boss metal zone.

Well, as I said, I'm totally open to any suggestion that you could give us
to get the maximum of our already limited equipment.

Private replys are ok, but Im hoping to create a long thread on this
    subject ;)

    ThanX in advance !

Are you on crack? The outro solo was sooo bad. Too much shifting between fast
and slow, not to mention it wasn't structured well at all...

Thanks to everyone who responded. I checked some online
reviws and along with everyone's input, I'm gonna pick it
up. It's only $19.99 around where I live. Actually,
Criterion's Tap was the first DVD I bought when I got my
player two years ago- and get this...The store I got it at
was just a few months into selling DVD's at the time. I got
it brand new for $17.99. Now it sells for close to $100.00
on e-bay. I guess they didn't know how much Criterion discs
    sell for.

      Take care,
     -Dave
