Looks like I'll be buying a DVD player and this DVD at the same time. :) A
worthy reason for the purchase, I think...
Best part is I'll be able to watch SFAM once and then skip over it for the
bonus material on future viewings. :)

I think I know what it is...as far as a product goes...another Signature
product...he told me about it last February in NYC...said it was going to be

Tama is releasing a Mike Portnoy Signature Starclassic Snare Drum. This has a
custom snare strainer, and although it is not operated by foot, (like
Mike's), it is hand operated. It has 3 different settings-On-Off-In between.
That was straight from Mike's mouth after the Roseland show last Feb, after I
asked about a whole signature set...
About the VHS/DVD/CD deal...I'm actually pissed that the ENTIRE show will not
be released on either format. I'm buying a DVD player JUST for this fucking
show...(That and Steve Vai's Alien Love Secrets DVD), so I'm pretty bummed
that the entire evening won't be on there. If "The Silent Man" is on there,
I'd be pretty happy...

MP graced Grand Rapids, Michigan last night with a clinic. We are very
fortunate in that a majority of local clinics are held in studio 1 of a
28 studio theater. I'm assuming it isn't really possible to mic up drums
through the THX system -- but the drums still sounded bitchin' (music in
the background was a little to soft though).
5$ for what was almost 3 hours of playing was a great value. Mike went
into some basic theory about subdivision that I think everyone in the
crowd already knew. He then played a cool mix of songs featuring drum
parts we would recognize -- I don't DARE give away that setlist, God
knows someone has been avoiding the list so they won't see it!
Mike explained the story involving his mother behind ACOS which I had
not heard before. Also discussed were the label pressure during FYI
caused by the success of PMU. Mike spoke of his love of movies, and said
that odds are VERY good he will record another Transatlantic.
All in all a great deal to see 1/5 of DT in town, but from an asshole
perspective, if Mike wants to clinic he should wait until he really has
time-off to sit down and write some solo drum pieces. Listening to him
play parts to DT songs was kinda "egh". Bozzio, on the other hand.
Left the clinic as they were giving away crap (Sabian tshirts,etc) to
find only about 5 people waiting for Mike. Since it was probably the
only chance in my life I'd have to meet him, I stuck around, and they
ended up making ME the front of the line! Being a guitarist with nothing
for him to sign, I took a handshake and stated...
"Your fans online want to know, what IS your favorite Simpsons episode?"
Mike leaned back and grinned and explained that while he DOES have them
all on tape (what a guy!) he's been so busy that he's missed the last
four seasons. When he has the time, he'll catch up on watching them.
Maybe next time...

I don't normally review movies on the jam, but this one may be of interest!
I loved Almost Famous.... It portrayed what it is like to really be into a
band and love Rock and Roll. It was great to see Kevin Smith alumni Jason
Lee( as lead singer). I could go on and on about how great it is....but I
will just say"Go see it!"

So, I'm flipping through the channels on Friday and run across the Dr. Laura
show. Don't know what made me stop, since I normally can't stand her
psycho-babble. Anyway, there is some high-school girl on there talking
about the lack of music education oppurtunities in her financially depressed
neighborhood. Apparenty, she's a singer, pianist, saxaphonist, etc. So,
they ask her to sing something and she goes into this
southern-gospel-accapella-style version of "Over My Head" by King's X!! I
couldn't believe what I was hearing. What's the deal here? Has KX allowed
OMH to be used in other music areas or has the song just been picked up
because of its obvious religious overtones? I seriously doubt that this
teenager was a KX fan, but one never knows.
