every single thing in the signal path can have a big effect on the tone. I
put together my current Triaxis/2:90/halfback setup over the course of about
3 years, and every time I added a new piece of Mesa gear, my tone improved
at least 100%. The first piece I got was the triaxis, and I used a carvin
tube power amp and Yamaha cab. It sounded decent, and I didn't think there
was really anything wrong with my setup. then I got the Mesa Halfback 2x12
Cabinet, and I was blown away by how much the speakers affected the tone.
Then a year later, I got the SimulClass 2:90 poweramp, and it gave me the
tone of God! Comparing the two, the Carvin was flabby and weak sounding,
while the 2:90 had balls, punch, and tightness. And more recently, I
replaced my speaker and patch cables with Monster cables, and it sounds even
    better!
I definitely would go with a tube power amp like the 20:20. It's
boogie, so you know it is going to sound incredible. good luck!

WOW! Lots of new info about Mike and related topics. So what do you all
think about the entire Roseland show not being released? Personally, I am
SO bummed that Kevin declined to come to the concert; I am POSITIVE that
they would have done what all their fans have pleaded for and played
Space-Dye Vest live. Talk about your bummers.

Have you checked the liner notes? The lyrics are right there on the
inside. That is, of course, unless you have a CD-R copy of the disc
that came without liner notes, in which case, I can't (read: won't)

hehe normally i agree strongly with that sentiment, but things like
christmas cds which arent available for sale i consider fair game, just
like boots... i wouldnt want to be excluded from hearing all the cool
stuff on the '97 x-mas cd just because i hadnt heard about DT then and
thus was of course not in the fan club... if there is a way to get it
legitimately, i am all about that but in cases of cds which are no longer
available legitimately, i dont think its wrong to copy it for
    someone. moo.

I'll add my little suggestions in if you don't mind...

    I use a Wet-Dry-Wet set-up. Basically, 1 4x12 for a dry rhythm sound, and 2
4x12's for the wet sound, (in stereo). Actually, this rig is still being put
together...but, anways, this is how I've done it in the past, (while
    borrowing stuff from people..etc..)

I record everything with the effects right on the guitar. I don't like adding
them in the mix afterwards, I tend to be the person who plans it out, tries
everything before I throw it onto tape, that way I know I'm going to want to
    keep it that way.

I put 2 mics on each cab. I really love SM-57's because of the clarity they
have, plus the durability. For each mic, I'll change the EQ settings. Like
I'll put a little burst of Bass and treb on one, and put the mids up a little
on the other, without so much bass and mid...

I'll do the same thing for all 3 cabs. For the lead cabs, (stereo cabs), I'll
pan on hard right and one hard left, with the dry going up the middle.

Recording is fun, especially when you have someone else pushing the buttons
    for you....

    Warm Regards,
    Andy

Mike P. has confirmed that there -will- be a VHS version ("latest news
from Mike" topic on mikeportnoy.com). However, that version will
include only SFaM, if I remember the post correctly. The DVD will -not-
include the entire show, but will include many of the bonus songs, plus
other stuff like alternate camera views, etc.

    Hello All;

I am back from a great trip to the Florida Gulf Coast! During my stay I had the opportunity to further plan for preproduction on the next Mindcage release entitled "Myriad Lives". The album is already written, and I will be working on getting the preproduction tracks down over the next few months. I will be going to Florida with preproduction tapes to tighten things up and lay the rhythm tracks at a Gulf Coast studio after the first of the year. The album will be finished up here in N Cal and planned for release by mid-summer 2001.

Hidden away on the Mindcage site is a new, secret page which contains lyrics and info regarding the upcoming release:

    Hi all

I know there are some other fans of Kyuss (RIP) on the list, so here some information that may possibly be new. There is a new compilation/best of album called "Muchas Gracias" that has lots of rare stuff, remixes and live tracks (god, if ever a band knew how to play live, it had to be Kyuss). This is a must for Kyuss fans who still mourn the passing of one of the best and most innovative bands ever.
