I post this because I love this list and want it to return the
greatness that it had many years ago. I joined this list soon after
Awake came out and am eternally endebted to all of the AMAZING
recommendations I've found here. I have always been in awe of the
calibur of people who continually grace these posts from year to year.
    Truly high-class people.

Now here's my point. The Jam is fucked, guys. You know it and I know
it. There is JACK SHIT traffic these days and it's impossible to
follow any threads when the Jams are 3 days apart.

It should NOT be the responsibility of the individual subscribers to
the list to have to filter out the spam. When people join a mailing
list, is it too much to expect that it's free of spam?

And let's be honest. Why is the Jam so sparse lately? Is it because
there's not much going on in the prog community? Bullshit! Prog is
bigger and better than it ever has been before. Okay, in the last 15
years or so. (It's not quite up to the level of the golden era of Prog
in the 70's yet) The high level of enthusiasm for prog just isn't
reflected much on the Jam lately because of the spam.

I have no doubt that that is exactly what it's referred to by some.
    "The YtseSpam".

Sorry to compare, but I am forced to: The Symphony X mailing list has
a TON of great posts daily. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that their
membership is 5 times that of the Jam these days. Why is that? Is SX
that much more popular? Hell no! The reason is because the list
forbids any posts from those who aren't subscribed to it. It's based
    on a server from yahoogroups.

It doesn't really matter what band the list is dedicated to. People
just want a cool FORUM to discuss prog bands! The info about your band
will make it to all the lists, so it doesn't really matter what you're
    subscribed to.

Things are going these ways, people. Mailing lists are TARGETS for
advertisements and it's time I think we all really consider this fact
and really make an effort to move this list to a server (or whatever -
I'm not perfect with the terminology) that forbids outside posts. If
someone posts spam who IS subscribed, it's easiest enough to boot the
    fucker off the list.

Back in the day, businesses had enough class to stay away from mailing
lists, but no longer. They go towards every possible outlet available
and lately it has turned our Ytsejam into a pile of shit.

Now what do we do? Do we sit back and pretend it doesn't exist and
slowly watch our membership dwindle to nothing? Or do we say FUCK YOU
to the spammers and let them send their shit somewhere else?

I certainly acknowlege that this isn't my decision to make but I make
this humble suggestion to the Ytsejam list owner, Skadz: Would the
trouble of moving the list be worse than watching the number of
subscribers slowly dwindle to nothing as we've been doing this past
    year or so?

I know nothing about the logistics about how to set up a mailing list
and I'm sure it's a pain in the ass, but there are lists out there that
will not accept spam and that is where things are going. Spam is
everywhere and people stay AWAY from it if they can help it. And that
means moving to other mailing lists in our case.

I post this because I want this list to rise to the greatness it once
had. It's shitty FOR A REASON right now and let's not be in denial as
to why. It's SPAM and we can do something to rid ourselves of it!

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox for now.

    Thanks for tuning in.

    - Dr. Teeth

(Rare poster, but listmember since 1994 and proud owner of one of the
    original Mike Bahr Subconscious Bootlegs).

In the interests of increasing the signal-to-noise ratio:

What guilty musical secrets do 'jammers have which they wouldn't like the
Prog Police to know about? Me, I think Roxette are great performers and
songwriters, and I sing along to them in the car all the time. Plus that
hit from All Saints was very catchy. Not a lot of prog fans know that...

Meanwhile... while I love Vitalij Kuprij's solo efforts, Artension hasn't
really done it for me. Any takers (ideally UK) for CDs Forces of Nature,
Phoenix Rising, Into the Eye of the Storm? Send me your bids or swappable

with spam. It has to do with the fact that there's not many interesting
    thoughtful people posting anymore.

Groan. Nah its Corrosion of Conformity who support Pantera. Haven't heard any news of shows by them. The Pantera concert is fairly soon tho, so I don't know how good the chances of that are. BTW. Just heard a rumour too that BB King could be coming down here, which will be cool too! I'm making a point of going and seeing all these old guys, like I saw Bob Dylan, cause it could be the last time they make it down here.
