Was Bartok big into whole-tone stuff? I know Debussy was, which makes me
think of all the whole-tone stuff on "Overture 1928," but I've always
wanted to credit that influence to Michael Romeo (Symphony X), seeing as
he's nutty about hawt, whole-tone akshun. I'm forgetting all the Bartok I
studied in college. That'd be interesting, along with the NIN seasoning.
Speaking of Debussy, if any of you want to hear some of the coolest techno
ever made that happens to be strongly influenced by Debussy, pick up Art
Of Noise "The Seduction of Claude Debussy." Possibly the best electronic
album of 1999. I'm not kidding.

If you mean the menu's etc, yes, everything is in English.
The concert itself, nearly all the talking on stage is in English.
The audience were told before the this, as it was being filmed for world wide release.
The interview with Tarja is in Finnish, but has English subtitles on the screen, Tuomas
interview is in English.
The backstage footage is 50/50 English/Finnish and extremely funny.
Also I have been told their will be a NTSC version of the DVD.

Oh really? Well if that's truly the case, that this IS legal, than the
whole system is a bunch of crap.
And that is why these copyrights are ridiculous most of the time. That
is why all mp3s whiners will loose their war.
If I own it I have right to burn a copy, yadda, yadda, yadda. So I can
decide to burn 3 copies too, just in case right? You never know. And
than your pal REALLY begs you to let him have one of the CDRs, and then
later the other gets stolen, and soon you have a major breaking of
copyrights law.
Doh.
Conclusions I myself draw from all this:
- I don't really care for the copyrights: I will burn whatever CD I want
to, I will download whatever mp3 I want to, store them where I want to,
and I will continue buying original CDs as I want to.
------------------------------------------------
About that SPAM topic, what really pisses me off is the fact that once
(and still) there were dozens of jam rules, this topic prohibited, that
thread prohibited, ...
While all that rules SHOULD exist, it's ridiculous with the shape of the
jam in the last year. Breaking all those rules would be much better than
the recent jams. :(
Bravo for Skadz for keeping the jam going all these years, but better
something is done fast to resolve this issue.
Allowing anybody to post to the jam and not having anti-SPAM filters is
equal to Mailing-List-Suicide.

Hi all,
Yep, the new DT DVD is pretty good. KM leads turned
into reggae? Cool! And how about that opening footage
featuring Mikey's last colonoscopy? You had to know
that's what it would look like in there... ;o)
And speaking of colons, here's a non-DT news article
someone might find humorous (well, it's better than
spam).
---------
"In a surprise 8-1 ruling, the Supreme Court ruled
that the US Constitution and Bill of Rights do not
apply to ordinary citizens of the United States. "
US Senate to Vote on Fecal Legislation
WASHINGTON, April 25 (Rooter News) - The Senate Health
Services Sub-Committee has unanimously recommended a
new bill which will create the largest health
organization in US history. The Federal Fecal
Contamination Control Act of 2001 will be submitted to
the full Senate for a vote within the year. The
details of the law include new enforcement practices,
and a variety of fines. Representatives of the Federal
Drug Enforcement Agency have been cooperating in the
development of the new laws.
After months of tearful and emotional testimony,
victims of various diseases, suspected to be caused by
fecal contamination, have declared victory on this
serious health hazard. Carol Brady, co-founder of
Parents Opposed to Opportunistic Parasites (POOP),
said that this new legislation is long overdue. "We
have suffered long enough with this hazard, and this
law must be passed for the sake of our children".
"Hand washing is just the beginning of this battle,"
said Dr. Dewey Long during sub-committee testimony.
Dr. Long, an expert on germs and a well-respected
authority in the field of surfactant application, is a
senior fellow at the Procto-Ponds Institute of Soap
Research, and has been deeply involved in this subject
matter for years. He stated "We must get a firm grip
on this national health hazard."
Religious leaders from around the world were invited
to testify, and one holy man was quoted as saying
"cleanliness is next to Godliness, so we fully support
the new law".
While hand washing has been required of food service
personnel for years, the new law will go several steps
further for the public safety. The Federal Fecal
Investigation Service (FFI) will be created as an
offshoot of the ATF. Millions of agents will be hired
within the year to staff the new department. Most
agents will be assigned to Fecal Verification duty.
The law will require that an agent be present in every
public restroom in the United States. Toilet flushing
will only be performed by an agent, who will verify
the contents of the bowl, and that the patron performs
the proper hand-washing afterwards. Hand-washing
requirements will vary based on the content of the
bowl. A fine of $1000 will apply to anyone who flushes
their own bowl, and on the second offense, an illegal
toilet flusher may be charged with destruction of
evidence, a felony offense punishable by up to 75
years in prison.
Details have not been confirmed, but it has been
suggested that Bathroom Agents (BA's) may also be
tasked with testing the contents of the bowl for
drugs. "A simple and inexpensive test strip will be
dropped into the commode by the agent, who will
observe for any evidence of drug use" said Seymour
Brown, Director of Enforcement Tactics at the FBI.
Additional clauses in the law will apply to proper
diaper practices. Parents found to neglect diaper
changing will be liable for fines, and after multiple
offenses, children may be taken from parents and put
into permanent protective custody.
Within one year, all diaper manufacturers will be
required to include a "Sanitary Timer" in all diapers.
This high-tech device will sound an alarm when diapers
have been contaminated with fecal material, and if
after five minutes, the diaper is not disposed of in a
designated receptacle, a violation notice will be
transmitted directly to the FFI via existing cellular
phone networks. Initial fines will be $4000, and after
three strikes, protective custody may be implemented
at the discretion of the arresting officer. Improper
diaper disposal will also be punishable by fines of
increasing amounts.
The US General Account Office (GAO) has verified that
the cost of the new program may run into the hundreds
of trillions of dollars, but Senate spokesman Hart
Leaky was quoted recently, saying that "no cost is too
much for the safety of our families and children."
Other backers of the new law have stated that the cost
of enforcement will be offset by income from fines and
fees.
One reporter present at the sub-committee announcement
asked if the proposed law might be considered
unconstitutional. Senate spokesman Hart Leaky replied,
"we have taken the unprecedented step of presenting
this issue directly to the Supreme Court for
pre-judgment. We are fully satisfied that the decision
rendered by the Court will make our country a safer
place for our families."
In a surprise 8-1 ruling, the Supreme Court ruled that
the US Constitution and Bill of Rights do not apply to
ordinary citizens of the United States. In the
majority decision, the court states, "While it has
been a common misinterpretation that the Constitution
applies to the average citizen, there is no statutory
language which explicitly grants such rights. It is
obvious that the original Founding Fathers did not
intend the Constitution to apply to slaves, women,
poor people or the common man. Thus the Constitution
and the rights guaranteed therein were only applicable
to the Founding Fathers themselves, who feared
retribution by the British Authorities. In light of
the fact that the Founding Fathers are now all dead,
the US Constitution is no longer relevant." In short,
the new law will not violate the rights of anyone, as
those rights no longer exist.
Expecting a slower than normal caseload, the Supreme
Court announced yesterday that they would leave early
this year for summer recess.
The number of people who die each year from fecal
related illness has not been determined, but some guy
who wandered into the Senate hearing said that the
number of fatalities would decrease by 117% within 4
years of implementation of the new law. Several other
people testified that once they started washing their
hands after using the restroom, they felt a lot
better. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass), a well-known
supporter of colorectal legislation, stated "I have
the evidence I need, let's wipe out this problem once
and for all!"
The only group opposed to the Fecal Contamination
Control Act is the American Civil Liberties Union
(ACLU), who want assurances that the new laws will not
be used in a discriminatory manner.
In related news, shares of soap manufacturers
Procto-Gambel (PGSH) were up 23.4 and shares of Diel
Industries (DIL) were up 265.2 after the announcement
of the tough, new hand washing laws. The biggest gains
were seen by high-tech company Dynamicrodoody Systems
(DUDU +472.2), the patent holder on the "Sanitary
Timer", which will become mandatory on all sanitary
products within the year.

One mailing list I'm on (specifically the Exchange mailing list on
www.swynk.com) allows you to subscribe but not receive mailings. This is
mainly so that folks can have the mailings going to a public folder, but
they can also post from their individual account when they want to.
Is there such an option with the Ytsejam?

Hi All ...
I heard some rumors that people are complaining about the SPAM. I
will work this weekend to get the SPAM filters in place which will cut
down/get rid of all the SPAM.
A number of people have asked me in the past why we do not enforce the
subscriber only posting. The reason is that alot of people have
multiple email addresses that they post from and only 1 is subscribed.
Ken and I talked about this a long time ago and its easier to leave this
off than turn it on, trust me.
Hopefully alot of the SPAM will go away after this weekend. When you
have problems like this, please email me and I will work on em, don't
just get all up in arms on the list.

I know the Kenwood Excelon line has this option. They have support for a CD changer, but if you don't have a changer, you can buy a $20 adapter that plugs into the change jack, but has RCA jacks for an external input. I've used it. It works pretty well.

To be honest, I've never ever had someone beg me to burn a cd for them so they could geto ut of buying it. At the very least they will download an mp3 to check it out. most of the Copyright hoohaa is from speculation, whatifs, and theories. The fact is that record sales are not declining. period.

well yea basically. But I support every artist I listen to. It is ridiculous to think that i should buy 2 cd's if I want to keep it at work to listen to, instead of just saving mp3's there.

Hey, cool! According to the welcome message I got when I subscribed, DT has a new album coming out on October 26!!!! Wow, I can't wait. I wonder what it will be like! :P
After about a year of absence, I'm back on the 'jam (in light of the release of the AMAZING DVD and video). After reading 2 digests, I'm already ready to unsubscribe. Reasons being: little/no interesting traffic (especially considering the video finally came out). Most/all the posts being not only from the same people, but the same people who eat up lines and lines of text by posting entire messages for a one-line reply. Or even worse, things like this:

To the above, I have done no editing whatsoever. THIS is the CHUNK in which it appeared in the last digest. What a waste of space. This, to me, is even worse than spam.
Yes, I realize I just wasted that much space and more. But it was in an effort to see that we don't get FOUR instead of three stacked on top of eachother in the next jam.

Looks good to me. Reminds me of when I cut all my hair off. I'll never look back. All I can really say is that it looks great, and it's about friggin' time.
> No can do on my in-dash CD player......... It would be cool if we had RCA > plugs on the front of CD players that we could plug external devices to.
I have no RCA jacks, but I do have an 1/8" input. I would get a portable mp3 player and listen in my car...if only mp3's didn't sound like total shit.

I have great difficulty justifying why anyone would need to be subscribed on multible email addresses. If someone could explain this to me (seriously) I'd appreciate it. I mean, if you just can't bear to be without your 'jams while you're at work (or away from work), then read TCP/IP for dummies, find out what a freaking telnet session is, or just learn to wait until you can get to your damn email. I'm all for subscribers-only posting.
As far as the spam is concerned (now that I have vented), I'm prepared to sit back and not complain anymore until we see how Skadz's spam filters do. I wish them the best of luck.
take care, Steve Z

a spam-free jam would be great!
cuz what we have now is pretty much a jam-free spam. :)
seriously though, it seems to me my interest in the jam started to wane last year around when the spam started kicking in. But the damage may have already been done - once you've joined the portnoy community, it's hard to come back to this except for us hardcore, asskicking fans. I guess we'll see what happens.

Graham,
That's why after ten years in Aberdeen I moved down south - so I could attack all the drunken Glaswegians down here instead of the other way round ;)

JM,
A completely reactionary statement on my part to the constant debt spam with absolutely no thought/consideration whatsoever to people who actually have debts and are looking for ways to ease them (although a lot of people who offer these sevices are complete scam-merchants!)
