    >>> I think it's quite unfair to say that musicians like Roine, Mike & Neal
try to just copy old prog. <<<

Well, Mike, in general, does not. I really don't know about the rest. Transatlantic just sounds cliched to me. I dunno, I suppose it is still good at what it does, even if I, personally, do not prefer it.

I was actually trying to find out what is up with Explorers Club "Raising The Mammoth". :)

    Hey all...

I have both of Randy Coven's solo albums ("Funk Me Tender" and "Sammy Says Ouch!"), along with the "CPR" disc he did with Al Pitrelli (guitars) and John O. Reilly (drums) and can't recommend them enough to those who don't. Unfortunately, my copies of the solo albums are cassettes, and I haven't gotten around to replacing them with CD versions yet. "Tree," from "Funk Me Tender," is one of the most beautiful examples of melodic bass playing I've ever heard, rivaling the best of Michael Manring's work.

As for Ring of Fire, the album is excellent. Boals has never sounded better, and it seems they actually managed to get George Bellas to slow down his fingers here and there to contribute some fine expressive playing in addition to his trademark "faster than Yngwie" shred. Vitalij Kuprij is all over the place on piano, organ and synthesizers, proving once again that he is one of the progressive metal genre's very best at the keyboards. Philip Bynoe is solid on bass amid the mayhem generated by Bellas and Kuprij, and what could I say about Virgil Donati's extraordinary drumming skills that hasn't already been said? Donati shows yet again that he is the most creative double bass drummer on the planet, doing things with his feet that most drummers can't do with their hands.

Unfortunately "The Oracle" isn't available domestically yet; I got my japanese import copy from Denis Gulbey of Sentinel Steel at the Wayne, NJ record show for $22, along with Japanese imports of the Ark album, Secret Sphere's incredible new one, "A Time Never Come," and Racer X' latest shredfest, "Superheroes." Pricey, but well worth it.

Anyone attending the Powermad Festival this weekend? The Scott Mosher & F5 (Chris) contingents will be there, shamelessly self-promoting, but hopefully not self-congradulting but probably self-indulging (myself, in Dr. Pepper). Just thought I would touch base and warn people right off the bat. Anyhow, feel free to check out some song samples at your leisure and buy a copy for your doctor or his lawyer's former roommate!

the CD: Scott Mosher - VIRTUALITY Ambient neo-progressive cyber rock witha dramatic, evocative and cinematic theme of expressionistic conceptualism.

Thanks. Now back to our reguarly scheduled program.

Thanks for the kind words Paul. Self-promotion, while certainly not an art form, is neither an exact science or a state of being. It's like continuously shoving one's perspective into other civilians faces, although I try to be somewhat unobtrusive and distinguished about it. Of course, that being said, having a totally self-financed project that is part of the scene, the PR machine kicks into high gear, and hopefully, the opportunity to sell a few (thousand) copies along the way. I did the project with many destinations in mind, and evidentally, I made sure I went out and forged symmetry between quality and quantity, and I think for this project, they are definitely synonymous.

I definitely appreciate honest opinions, constructive criticism, and other comments, suggestions, although stock tip will be temporarilly withheld at the holders request. Paul was gracious enough to take a chance on the CD (well, that's what CD sample clips are for right? heh heh) and from his gracious words, I think he enjoys it. I am not looking for validation, per se, just a chance to bring something somewhat new into the progressive realm, as progressive music itself, is quintessentially about bridging musical boundaries and conventions, if nothing else.

So, y'all (I just temporarilly moved to NC, so I am practicing my southern invection and semantics) should check it out. If you like DT, FW, Tangerine Dream, Kitaro and some trance for good measure...

For my obligatory DT comment: I met John and Mike at the Raleigh, NC G3 meet/greet at the MUSIC LOFT and they were also kind enough to accept a copy of my CD, without performing any barbershop quartet versions of their songs, or N*Sync karaoke... Mike is always a character, but the usually reserved JP and his new haircut are cuttin' edge now...

Anyhow, feel free to check out some song samples at your leisure and buy a copy for your doctor or his lawyer's former roommate!

i just checked out the tripple live cd on cdnow. down in the "notes" section of the page, it say that it is going to be an enhanced cd. anybody heard what the enhancement is going to be?? i'm guessing something like a video clip, since mp loves his video camera so much. and they have a picture of the cover of the cd too. first time i saw that. not too interesting though. looks like the covers i made for the cds from the dvd audio. later -tim

    "Ambassador Nelaskon" <moc_liam@mail.com> asked:

    > I'm a little curious about "The Warning" though. I have heard > that it was good heavy metal, but not progressive like their > later stuff. That's why I haven't gone out of my way > to try to hear it yet.

The Warning is like nostalgia for a lot of us, so we remember it a little differently than you'll hear it for the first time today. In 1984, it was "progressive" in that it was pushing the envelope of metal. It was a little more complex and higher quality than most of the metal of the day, and there were those outrageous Geoff Tate vocals. Today, it's all old hat, so it won't sound ground-breaking to you. So for a new-comer to The Warning, just think of it as a great heavy metal recording from 1984. Compare it to another great disc of the time, Iron Maiden/Piece of Mind. Early Queensryche was somewhat inspired by early Iron Maiden...
