I think when you plan a mini tour like G3 did.(I went)
you can't be different each day. It needs a lot of
training to play..and noone want to make mistakes in
this band. So the only way to feel secure is doing the
same each night.
I understand that..also each day was in a different
city. If you tell me they will play 3 nights in your
town then you can expect more..but like this no.

Well, there's always two sides...
On the one hand, a "music" performer usually only says
a few scattered things. It seems a little ridiculus
for them to repeat the same two short "jokes" or
phrases or gags every night.
On the other hand, other live performers (comedians,
plays, etc.) repeat themselves night after night. It's
expected to be pretty much the same every time.
I'm not sure why musicians are treated differently in
this respect...

Maybe I can add to this...
Main Entry: an7gu7lar
Function: adjective
1 a : forming an angle : sharp-cornered b : having one
or more angles
2 : measured by an angle <angular distance>
3 a : stiff in character or manner : lacking
smoothness or grace b : lean and having prominent bone
structure
Angular is often used as an adjective to describe
music or guitar playing. It is based on definition 3a
above. More simply, it means "non-melodic" (i.e. no
traditional or easily accessible melody)

Hey everybody,
My name is Sean McFee, and I'm writing from the ProgDay
organization. ProgDay is a festival of progressive music that has been
taking place since 1995. This year's edition promises to be one of the
best yet, with a line-up running the gamut of progressive styles and an
unparalleled outdoor environment.
WHEN: Sept. 1-2 ... only EIGHT DAYS AWAY
WHO: Pain of Salvation (playing their only North American appearance)
The Flower Kings
Arsnova
The Muffins
Azigza
YETI
Sigmund Snopek III
Polydactyl
ALSO: Friday night pre-show, with Uncle Gut, Smokin' Granny and Man on
Fire, and a Saturday night club gig featuring the return of
Crucible with a live show and their new album! Also, playing
between sets, virtuoso guitarist Shawn Persinger.
WHERE: Chapel Hill, NC at Storybook Farm
For more information, head to www.progday.com. Summer's almost
over, so why not end it with a long weekend of thirteen progressive music
acts, prog vendors (over a dozen including the Laser's Edge and
Syn-Phonic), outdoor fun and like-minded fans?
Hope you'll join us in just under two weeks.
Regards,

from the onion, i thought it might apply to a few here:
todays horoscope:
Cancer: (June 22--July 22) Quelling the unrest in the forest will severely limit the time you can spend with your prog-rock band this week.

I had this idea that angular playing was something like playing with very weird note groupings, or something along those lines. And once in a while, throw a couple of notes outside the center key. Like Chris said, Gilbert and Petrucci play mostly with some definite note groups: 16ths, sextuplets, etc...and make any pattern with any werid number. But people like Vai are much more expressive, i say, because of the way they play. Windows to the Soul, or Touching Tongues are VERY different than Erotomania or Hell's Kitchen. JP has some angular playing on some songs...like ToT...but he was in "Holdsworth mode", not being his usual self.
There's gonna be a Gilbert clinic in a week here in my hometown. I might ask him about this, just to know his opinion....maybe he'll dodge my question and unacknowledge this "angularity" term!
Mauricio
About the definition 3a, above..."lacking smoothness or grace"? Tell them to hear Tender Surrender!
