I thought Mr. Arch was a fairly successful cabinate maker in Connecticut. I also
thought he quit Fates Warning as opposed to being fired?

<Did John Arch ever do anything aside from the first 3 Fates Warning
    albums
(and audition for James LaBrie's position)? I'm listening to "Awaken The

Guardian" again at present, and I can't help but think that, while Arch
probably wouldn't fit into what FW is up to these days, he should be in
*some* band. The dude's too good to have simply packed it in after
    getting
    kicked out of Fates.>

I may have to give him another shot, when I listened to some old Fates, I
wasnt impressed, but that was before I started listening to singers who
could actually sing in the high ranges...(Dickinson, Halford, etc) Maybe
Ill check it out. Thanks you guys just gave me more cd's to get.

    I am getting for xmas:

    Nevermore-Politics of Ectsasy
    Symphony X-Live at the edge....
    Opeth-Blackwater Park

We downloaded 2 OPeth songs, and I was floored.....that disc really looks
interesting, is it some sort of concept album?

What's the harm in a warning huh?

Hey all, couldn't resist myself and downloaded the title track the other
day. While the track was 70 something Mb and took me about 5 hours (even
if I have cable), I finally finished listening to it today!
    Here are my impressions:
LOTS of influences here: from an obvious Metallica-ish (fast metally
part), Deep Purple-ish (sometime around 30 minutes, the bluesy part),
Symphony X / Rhapsody (hey... who COULDNT notice this? its a frickin
orchestra song), possible some Spock's Beard. I'm not too sure about
    that.
I wish I had the lyrics in front me, that makes a difference with DT,
considering they dont sing about sucky girlfriends or other mainstream
crap. Anybody know what 6doit is a reference to? It seems the song tells
a story of some sort, I don't know of what.
I got some satisfaction from Petrucci; some melodic solos as opposed to
shred-fests. So that's good. My only problem with the new album NOW
    (hehehe I know I'm a complainer) is:
    a) no instrumental track (i know there were instrumental parts
everywhere, but i like having a standalone track, ya know?)
    b) no complex portnoy rhythms! What happened to MP? has he lost his
ability to 19/16 or wacky drum patterns that just make you go wow? I
    haven't heard a single one on all 6 tracks20
Ah well, there's always the new album in 2004... I think i'll be okay
with this one for the time being (considering its not out yet!)

    merry christukkah everyone
    faithful jammer,
    M.S

Wow - this is a sad day. Just found out that Chuck Schuldiner (Death/Control
    Denied) passed away.
