Partha asked some very good questions which I will address, even though
it took me 7 hours to remove his damnfangled tags:

    >I was wondering why the fact that it's being done in honor of the
    ytsejam
    >mailing list has to be so prominent on the shirt (that stuff at the
    bottom
    >of the back of the shirt). The reason I love the original ytse-shirt
    >(beside the glow in the dark "let the light surround you") is that it
    can be
    >worn as a Dream Theater shirt, and not scream to the world, "I am a
    nerd"
    >(not that enough people know who Dream
    >Theater are for that to matter)

All DT merchandise has to be licensed, and can only be sold through
cybermusic online or winterland at concerts, and because of the cost of
all involved, would have to cost twice as much...even if I were allowed
to make it. But because I put ytsejam on there, that makes it a fan-club
shirt, which is fine. That first shirt 5 years ago was lucky.

    >I never bought Josh's last shirt for the simple fact that he put that
    definition of
    >progressive on there (apologies if i'm mixing up shirtmakers here).

    nope, all me.

    >For me, that was like admitting to all those critics who have been
    >damning prog music for the last thirty years that, yes, indeed,
    >we are pretentious arses.

I think we pretty much are. :)

I believe both of your problems are related: First, you'd prefer the
fans of DT be depicted as just that - not something more obscure. And
second, you'd prefer the same thing of DT themselves.

My response to that is, since by law I must anyway design my product as
clearly not-for-mainstream, or I could be sued, I will go with the flow
and celebrate that very obscurity. I think it's cool when people see the
ytsejam shirt and like it, even though they haven't the foggiest what it
is. Cuz they know that's what DT and the fans are all about. Kind of
like when you watch the simpsons, you'll never get every reference but
    you know it's funny anyway.

However, I did make the "ytsejam" part smaller and the "DT" part bigger
this time, and I added the website as well, all to take some of the
focus off us and put more on the internet fans in general. More on that
    in the faq.

    hope this helps

This is about as official as you can get: I have a DT logo font you are
allowed to use, located at http://cout.dhs.org/dtlogofont.zip. You can
get a Majesty symbol from that font, using the Y key, and you can make it
any size you want (it's a TrueType font). Plus, it's been officially ok'd
by Mike Portnoy (I checked with him before I even started distributing the
file). Read the README.txt file included in the ZIP to know exactly how
to use the font to make the DT logo correctly (it's a case-sensitive font
as well). Glad to be of help.

Ahh, here we go again, this happened once before and it'll always happen.
You're like that crowd that hangs out on Perpetual Motion, you can't understand
the subtleties of Fates... if the riff doesn't kick you in the ass outright,
    you think it's boring.

I like all the stuff with Alder. No exit suffers from the bad production.
Parallels I think is my fave, followed by APSOG and Disconnected.

Alder should win something for Don't Follow Me. Incredible vocals.

Yep, first time ever touring the US for Opeth and CoB. :) Can't
wait. The tentative Atlanta date is May 9th, I'm told by good sources,
although the venue is not yet confirmed. Opeth will also be playing
some mostly-Northeast dates with Shadow's Fall, presumably right after
    the Massachusetts Metal-Fest.

Q: What do Mike Portnoy, Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt and the lead singer
of Shadow's Fall all have in common?

A: They're all big fans of Ozric Tentacles (!)

Nothing necessarily wrong with this... I've been known to downloada couple of tracks, LOVE the stuff and download a further few albums worth just to listen to until I can get to the shop or until a mail order arrives... speshly where I am, nothing much obscure is available unless you mail-order it from interstate / overseas, which can take anything from a few days to a couple of weeks.... It's nice to have something to listen to while you're waiting :)

Nope..thats wrong ... i dont need "kick ass" riffs to like something some of my current favorite albums dont have ANY kick ass riffs : Both chromakey discs (no riffs) tiamat's A deeper kind of slumber , Portishead's self titled , anathema's judgement and alternative 4 ... all the while bands like symphonyX and _insert trendy progmetal band here_ dont do *anything* for me... Hell, my favorite parts out of Disconnected and APSOG , and what sets them apart from other prog releases, are the more instrospective, quiet parts...

I was just pointing out to him, that APSOG and Disconnected sound nothing like older fates (not exactly nothing, but barely) and that he couldve been dissapointed if expecting the same type of stuff...

My question is this, if ChromaKey didn't involve Kevin Moore at all and was Yanni or some Joe Blow, how many of you would listen to this boring drab dull and lifeless elevator music ? Your wrong about Anathema, both albums you mention contain lots of great riffs.

well if i had been able to hear it...i would still love it... because i love the music itself..i dont even associate it with DT ...i find it the total oposite of dull and lifeless... for me , its moody and emotional.. yes its "cold" ...but at least for me it fits my moods most of the times.... about anathema.. i didnt mean it that way, i just thought that Mosh was sort of accusing me of wanting prog-elitism wankery type of metal riffs in my music.. and while judgement and alt4 have catchy moments and riffs, it has nothing in the sense of what mosh was talking about .... --

I do too. The thing is this: I LIKE Chromakey's music. I find it to be relaxing and interesting, even though it's not technical at all. You really need to stop limiting yourself to certain types of music. The way that find myself able to like all sorts of music (even mainstream stuff) is because I tell myself that there is ALWAYS something about the music that I can find enjoyable, whether it's the beat, the lyrics, the technicality, the etherealness (as in the case of Mr. Moore), etc.

The only thing about ChromaKey is that if it didn't have Kevin Moore in it and instead had some Joe Blow, then I may not have heard about it, but I would still have liked it. The question is, when it doesn't involve a musician you have heard before and know, how do you hear about new bands to buy them, without any propaganda from the record label?

But I will say this: If it had Yanni in it, I'd DEFINITELY be buying it.

Watch out, you may have been over-hyped. But yes, I would recommend all of the Symphony X discs. They're not on Magna Carta. Your record store should be able to order them for you. You might also try cdnow or amazon. If you happened to be in the San Francisco Bay Area, there's a couple of stores called "Compact Disc Werehouse" that have almost everything in stock (they have a big prog section).

So I'm listening to this copy of Stayin Alive sung by Ozzy and Dweezil Zappa (which is scary enough in and of itself) when I notice these lines in the bridge:

"It's alright, it's okay, I'll live to see another day, we can try, to understand... etc" and I think to myself... those lyrics with that melody sound really familiar. It was then that it hit me:

"That's alright I'm okay It happens every single day" It's all the same and I'm not blind"

Not only are the lyrics somewhat similar, but the melodies are almost exactly the same (maybe in a slightly different key). The similarity I think is even more noticable in YOU OR ME.. I always knew there was something I ddin't like about that song ;)
