Yeah! Personally, I'd say get S.C.I.E.N.C.E first, because I think it's the
more diverse, experimental, and progressive album, but they're both great.

Well, Linkin Park is pretty much just a Korn wannabe. You may not like Korn
but they were pretty innovative when they first came out. As for Disturbed, I
agree with you there. They seem ok to me, but not innovative. Plus, their
    lyrics seem to pretyy substandard.

just kidding.....kind of.....haven't exactly read this thing
    in....ummmm.....ages......

anyway, I never did do a top 5 of last year, and although you don't care, I
wanted to toss my (mostly mainstream (for this list, anyway)) list into the
    hat/ring.
    1) Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb sun 2) Iron Maiden - Brave New World
    3) Cradle of Filth - Midian 4) Echolyn - Cowboy Poems Free 5) Speedbumps -
Crayon Box (might have been a 1999 issue)

Yeah, I know I left out tons of good stuff, and that's probably because I
didn't pick up on all that much this year, or perhaps because I didn't think
Spock's Beard's "V" advanced that band's catalogue in any particularly great
way, or because I never did pick up the new King's X. Whatever.

As for what made the list, I didn't even realize my #1 album was even
released until December, so you can imagine what kind of impact it's had to
jump straight up to the top. Porcupine Tree is definitely moving up my
    personal fave bands chart.

In terms of #3, I never really thought it possible that I'd really enjoy a
black metal disc, but I guess exceptions are made for every rule. (Just
curious, what category does Saviour Machine fall into?)

And if #5 is a 1999 release, I'd probably make the Construkction of Light my
    #5 disc.

    but, like I said, whatever.

    appreciation for rap music.) :)

Just got King Crimson's "Deja VROOOM" DVD today -- what a cool piece of
work. The source video itself is not the greatest quality (the problem
with recording a real live concert), but the sound's outstanding, and the
special features... Tons of multiple camera angles (one song has a full 7
different angles, each with a separate audio track featuring the
instrumentalist you're looking at more prominently in the mix), a bunch of
random videocamera footage/articles from Robert Fripp, and a program where
you can select rhythm sections, vocalists, and soloists from 1969, 1971,
1974, and 1996 to combine into one audio-track rendition of "21st Century
    Schizoid Man."

I'm new to the DVD scene. Anyone have any prog/metal DVD
recommendations? I'm looking in particular for 'interactive'-type discs.

Probably your closest bet'd be "goth-metal". Not an exact fit, by any
means, but the sound is very gloomy with low-register semi-operatic vocals,
so it has that much going for its categorization. Tough to pidgeonhole a
    band like Saviour Machine, though.

Couldn't agree more. Bernd Basmer of Superior got me started on this
band a few years back (yea, sometimes you have to have people from
places like Germany to clue you in on good music!) and they're one of
the best "mainstream" bands I've discovered in years. Diverse playing
styles, excellent vox, very tight live. Any band where the lead singer
also plays the didjeridoo and the djembe is pretty cool in my book. :)

I saw them open for Primus here, and they had a deal where, if you
bought a CD at the front of the venue it entitled you to attend a
meet'n'greet after Primus' show where you'd get them autographed. I
replaced the copy of MAKE YOURSELF that I'd brought over to Progpower
for Bernd and the lady said, based on ticket sales and prior experience
on the tour, they weren't expecting more than 50-60 people to buy a CD
for the meet'n'greet. (This was before the show started.) "Cool," I
    thought.

Incubus reallly rocked the house, with a well-received show that
surprised a lot of Primus' fans....and so there were about 150 fans at
the meet'n'greet. (!) Pretty amazing, for a show that sold about 1300
tickets; over one-tenth of the audience bought Incubus CDs.

Regarding Linkin Park: I would have to say on the surface, they may sound like a Korn wannabe, but they surpass Korn in every aspect if you hear the other songs on the album.

Someone kill Fred Durst, he's killing Limp, god he fucking sucks balls, he's the Lars Ulrich of that band, he's murdering the shit.

Matt Guillory told me about Incubus a long time ago, and I thought he was nuts, but after listening to them quite a bit, I'd have to say they are quite the musical band.

As far as the hard 90's scene goes... I'd still have to say Fear Factory, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend and Infinity, still rule the scene. New Fear Factory out in April called DIGIMORTAL, should be a killer one.

Regarding the new Kip Winger: Good stuff, nice use of detuned and 7-string stuff.

This Anton Maiden dude was a big anti-hero a few years ago. Both the press and swedish tv was all excited because this skinny teenage nerd with thick glasses had made a bunch of totally unbelievable midi-singalong versions of maiden hits like "the number of the beast" and "the trooper". Lunacy Records even published his CD late 1999.

Found some funny comments in his guest book (had to translate some of them from swedish):

    - God damn royal! For a long time we have believed that there are people out there who top everything we have seen before. Now we are waiting for Anton/DC with a version of the classic Thunderstruck.

    - Stop desecrating Maiden, you miscreant!

    - I love you Anton. You are so sexy that when i look at your eyes I get an erection, because I am a shemale. I'm gonna come to see you dressed in (some kind of plastic) and pink Maxi-panties.

    - Hi. You such so fucking much that you give me an ulcer. The Swedish people laugh at you. You are a big pathetic joke for people with no humour. Iron Maiden sucks but you make them even worse. I puke gall on you and your family. You got the voice of Michael Bolton. Your homepage is CP-bad. Almost as bad as your nose. You suck pig-balls. Hope you get a brain tumor and die. Besides, your mum is really fat, ugly as hell and smells like cheese sandwich. I like you as much as a pimple in my butt. I also believe you are a moderate.

This is great. His music isn't, but it's quite funny the first time you listen to it. A guy who makes people react like this, must have hit a nerve. At least he's got a nerve.

    >Bruce sucks, bring on Anton! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO

I've always considered Saviour Machine to be the perfect cross between The Cure and Type O Negative. :) I dunno. That's just how I hear 'em. -- KorgX3 is speaking of The Cure's "Disintegration" album, anyway.

    Dear ytsejam@torchsong.com,

This is a 5x5 Forced Matrix Cash Gifting Program. YEARLY CASH INCOME of $234,300 once your 5x5 matrix is filled to its maximum capacity. Gifting programs DO work. Giving and receiving is a basic principal of life, as taught to us at Chrismas time. This program is simply a practical and honest way of sharing the wealth of the world which surrounds us. It may take a year for that to happen, or it may take a year and a half ..depending on downline activity. But with free enrollment and Easy Grow Downline Builder, you can consider this an investment in your retirement.

You can satisfy your curiosity by going to this link:

    worldwide@prontomail.com

and type matrix in the subject area.

Does anyone have a link to some samples of Vanishing Point's music? Thanks.
