There is a big following for American music over in Europe and
thereabouts... People like Michael Jackson and David Hasslehoff (from
babewatch) have a huge following OUTSIDE the USA...

Back when Crocodile Dundee came out, America ate him up and that movie made
a LOT of money. Meanwhile every Australian was embarrassed.. Kinda funny
    how that works out.

I'm not quite sure, but I think that my first CD was Extreme's
Pornograffitti back in 1990. Not a bad choice if you ask me. My latest
CD was "Secret Story" by Pat Metheny.

Btw, can anyone recommend a band similar to Digital Ruin? I've lately
started to like both "Listen" and "Dwelling in the Out".

Actually. Bafu Vai is not around Seattle. He moved back to the DC area some years ago (crashed my place up at NIU on his way east). My estimate is that he is somewhere around the middle of Pennsylvania right now, on his way to Ohio, where he will sleep tonight. Tomorrow afternoon he should be arriving in Chicago, where much jamming shall occur, and then on Saturday he continues his trek towards Washington state, where he should be resuming permanent residence on Monday or Tuesday, depending on how slowly he drives.

Kind of weird timing... like a Wayne's World moment, and I'm the fat security guard (Chris Farley) who has too much information... :)

This is all true by the way. If any Chicago jammers want to meet Bafu Vai (not many Chicago jammers are old school enough to know who he is) drop me an e-mail and maybe we'll set something up.

What's odd is that I had nothing to do with the original idea; there's some sort of connection between the Beard and a convention guest (who also sings), actress Julie Caitlin Brown. I think they're her backup band when she records. When the band's name floated across the table at a D*C planning session I was like "Woah? 'Scuse me? Did you say Spock's Beard?!?!"

    Hi all,

Here's something for all UK Jammers: On C4 Saturday night @ 10pm there's the latest in the Top Ten series: Progressive Rock.

Here's what Hot Tickets have to say:

"Quite amusing, although (with the odd exception) the music is so awful that this show doesn't have the allure of previous Top Tens. The opening joke is that one million years BW (Before Westlife), dinosaurs ruled the earth. Then, at the end of the Seventies, the three-minute pop song with attitude (punk) came along and killed them. That's all you need to know."

I wonder what tracks they'll pick that'll be so awful?

On a side note, I'm currently listening to Eminem's Marshall Mathers album, and although I generally abhor this kind of "music" I'm actually quite impressed!

    Cheers

    Doug

What was worse though was when they had him parading in the closing ceremony in Sydney riding on top of a giant Akubra hat. Oh, the humility!!!

Latest CDs : Enchant 'Juggling 9 Or Dropping 10', Behind The Curtain 'Till Birth Do Us Part', Spastic Ink 'Ink Complete', Annon Vin 'A New Gate', Avalon 'Eurasia'.

First DT : a local magazine described IAW as "Yes meets Metallica". That was enough for me. I ran and grabbed the cassette. Yes, I've upgraded to CD now. The cassette was sold to a store near University Of Kentucky campus when I took some courses there in 1996 (anybody from that school or Lexington area ?).

Latest DT (the closest I ever get to DT ...) : I was MC for John Myung's Yamaha bass clinic in Indonesia, February 20. John had to swallow his laughter when I mentioned that my favorite Myung bass sound was from Awake (which of course did not involve a Yamaha bass !).

Yes, that's right I forgot to mention it. Jaska Raatikainen acted quite well. I was a bit surprised when I first heard that he's on that production.

Now my newest CD is Savatage - Poets And Mandmen (just came from record shop) , have just listened to it once but it seems to be a good one -Oliva is good but Zack would have been a lot better. Mine is a limited edition version including:

Bonus track: Jesus Saves -unreleased live track (Zack on vox!!) Bonus video: Handful Of Rain (GREAT!!) and a sticker and a little poster..

Opinions about the album (Poets And Madmen) guys and girls?

Tommi - great purchase. I've been raving about Avantasia on another couple of Email lists for quite a while. It is excellent. That CD has grabbed a lot of people from the first listen. It stayed in my car CD player for about a week :)
