    Hello all, Important Message:

The progressive metal band Sun Caged is a band based in the south of the
Netherlands (near Venlo), the band will be on a Dream Theater tribute CD
pretty soon with the song "Caught In A Web (sang by Forever Times female
singer "Laura v Driel"). Though the band does not have a full time singer at
the moment, so the band is eagerly looking for a singer !!!

Male or Female doesn't really matter, we would love a combination of both
(so maybe two singers) but one of those would be fine too, we can write the
songs the way that it will be compatible with the voice we will get.

The style we are looking for though vocalwise is somewhere in between
Nevermore, Faith No More, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, The Gathering, Pain
Of Salvation, Marillion etc. This is also the way the band sounds, with some
experiments to thrash metal (Meshuggah kinda riffs) to Fusion.

We have recorded a demo-CD in the past with three guestsingers, that demo we
also used grunt vocals but we don't need a vocalist who does this since we
will not use the grunts anymore, though if you want to check those songs out
    they are on mp3.com:

    http://www.mp3.com/suncaged

If you are interested or know a good singer for the band then please email
    me at: mcoenen@home.nl
    or give me a call: +31 650 206 206

The band has ex-members of the bands Lemur Voice and Within Temptation, and
is a professional band, so no beginners please.

A CD will be recorded later on this year, and plans are discussed with
    recordlabels right now.

You can also view the band's official website at: http://www.suncaged.com

I am hoping for a lot of reactions !!

I might be one of the all time lowest profile ytsejammers, but I'm still here. Signed on in mid '95 also. Still remember when Mike Bahr's Subconscious was for sale......and when hitting jam #1000 was an event. I've had a good time.

    Till #10,000.

At the Ask Mike section of MP.com, Mike listed this album's "Inspiration
Corner" and I thought it would be neat to compare with SFaM's:

Inspiration Corner CDs for SFaM: The Wall, Operation: Mindcrime, Misplaced
Childhood, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Tommy, The Lamb Lies
    Down on Broadway, etc.

Inspiration Corner CDs for new DT: Master of Puppets, Aenima, OK Computer,
Vulgar Display of Power, Achtung Baby, The Downward Spiral, Superunknown,
and Petrucci brought in some Bartok and Rage Against the Machine.

Interesting how the differences may influence the sound of the next album!

just one thing, OK computer was one of the cds we can see in the beartracks
clips, so add that one to the SFAM list.

Hey all - I was one of the first to get net access when it was offered in my rural Alabama town back in March/April 1996. The first thing I did was subscribe to the jam. I actually printed one out that first week so I could read it while I was away from the computer. What a geek!

from: "Backdraft \(Mats Rydstrom\)" <backdraft@elrancho.com> > Get the new Opeth (prod by Steven from Porcupine Tree)!

I did ($13 at Best Buy, Tallahassee, FL). I love the music. But why, oh, why do so many people insist on the cookie monster vocals? This guy can sing very well. Those stupid fucking growls are the only blemish on Blackwater Park, IMO.

    Take care, Mark Peters epididymisle@earthlink.net

Yeah, cookie monster vocals turn me off... I went through a phaze back in high school (84-87) where I liked that stuff but that's been a while. I really wanted to get into After Forever but the cookie monster turned me off. Opeth has some fantastic music but I can't listen to the cookie monster.

The only cookie monster I like is the actual Cookie Monster singing "I did it all for the COOKIE".... grabbed that parody from Napstah

When you don't get a "Digest" in a while, that means the individual postings are down. If you are subscribed in individual message mode, you'll see the messages individually right when they get posted.. It's been slow on the 'Jam lately............but the Symphony X list (teof-subscribe@yahoogroups.com) is doing great. Discussing lots of other Progressive Metal/Rock bands.

    Rotflmao!

    <In scratchy old man voice>:

"I've been on the jam since 1964. I had to walk 50 miles in the snow, uphill both ways, just to reach the good ole' IBM Model 204. We wrote the jam back then in Assembly language on paper tape, and read it from punch cards. Put them together into a digest using an ancient dialect of JCL. Yeah, dem were the days. You whipper-snappers don't know how well you got it today!"

Steve Chew: Your ytsejam archive kicks all manner of butts. It appears I joined the ytsejam list on or about March 14th, 1995, just in time for Digest 748, which would make this the 5,048th digest I've received (or maybe not, what with number skipping, and temporary unsubs, whether intentional or not)(and I can't claim to have read 'em all, either)

Anyway, back in those days, Mike Bahr was a good thing on this list.... :)
