Hi I just subscribed to this list yesterday in bounce mode. Have there been
any postings? I'm not seeing activity, or is there another DT list I should
    know about?

We're here; just a bit quiet at the moment. I think we're all a bit
    hung over after last night.

This list, just like the others I am on is slow sometimes and other times I can hardly keep up. What do you say folks, anybody got a hot topic we can discuss, so Paul can see that this list it the place to be.

I will be purchasing my first home theater system soon, and I was looking for advise on several items.

Reciever: Based on specs and reviews, I'm leaning towards the Denon AVR-3802 (Retail $1,000, can probably get it for $700). This reciever seems like it can definitely handle all of my current needs (which are few and far between), along with all of my future needs (HDTV, 7.1 Surround, DVD, DBS TV, etc.). Does anyone have any experience with this receiver. Any reccomendations for this or one like it?

Speakers: I don't know much about speakers. I have a pair of Boston Acousics HD-8 speakers that I used for my Sony stereo setup (I'll never buy another Sony item as long as I live) about 10-15 years ago. Could I incorporate those into my setup; perhaps as my left and right rear speakers? My local audio store seems to carry Boston and PSB, and I know very little about either. Are there any brands I should stay away from? Any that tend to be better than the rest? I know this is all very subjective, but I would love to hear some opinions. I'd also like to stay in the $1,000 - $2,000 price range for 5 speakers plus a sub.

If anyone has any advise about the above items, or about home theater in general, I'd really appreciate hearing it. This will be me first HT and I want to do it right the first time. I can't spend a fortune on audiophile components right now, but I would like to buy quality components from a reputable dealer (not Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.).

Also, what CD's would you reccomend taking to sample different setups? I figured that it might be a good idea to take some CD's that are well produced (APSOG from Fate's Warning, Awake) along with some that are not (WDADU, for example). I figure that if a poorly produced CD sounds good, the better ones will sound great. I was also going to take some live shows with me (both official recordings and bootlegs).

I'd love to hear some opinions.

    Chris
