In a mind-blowing e-mail sent on the extremely historic date of 1/30/02 6:09
    PM, Neil Evans thusly spaketh:

    > "Guitar World Presents John
    > Petrucci's Wild Stringdom". It's a nice neat collection of his columns with

    > the examples slowly.

I don't have the source to direct you to, but if my memory serves me
correctly, that is *not* JP who's doing the playing on the CD...

Just wanted to thank the Jam for their support so far, with all the
headaches I've been having with this CD. I'm ready to just get all this
stuff working, so I can just enjoy the CD.

Got it working in winamp, by using the right click, play audio cd method,
which isn't usually required for audio cds (usually i can just load the
directory into winamp). Got it working in linux, i guess only one of my
cdrom drives is configured for the linux cd player. One is an LG
    32x4x4x Cd-RW drive, the other is a Liteon 16x DVD-ROM drive.

Next problem is seeing CD audio tracks. I'll try the right click on
the disc and see if session options come up. Then ripping, I'll try the
fix for EAC next, since it does show promise in ripping the discs. Once
again thanks for all the pointers, although I think it is ridiculous to
have to go through all these steps when I've had no problem with CDs in
the past (something is fishy here, I agree the lack of a Compact Disc
Digital Audio logo makes me somewhat suspicious). Even says it won't play
properly on all CD-ROM drives, which is completely ludicrous. I hope the
band (especially Mike) hears about what Elektra is doing to us.

Still gotta admit, this album is growing fast on me, even though I can't
enjoy it in its full capacity.

    Thanks,
    Kevin Loechner

The cd is awesome! while my pals and i dont like all the songs, we do
like most. we'll say 8.5 out of 10! the tune we really cant shake is
"goodnight kiss"?! this song blew us away. Such a surprise to us
considering we usually enjoy the much heavier tracks. Very moving tune.

Cant say enough of the whole "overture" composition either. I think
prog should be looking for songs such as this to set a lot of new
standards. Rudess uses his patches like he should, i wish he'd use them
more often. the tune made us laugh out loud while listening to certain
parts. especially with all the unpredictable bells and whistles etc.
That is fun music. One jammer was dead on- it really sounds like a movie
score. Tons of magical moments. Not only that, but did anyone else think
there were many similarities to any fantasy based vid games?
    Breathtaking keyboarding.

The voice fx used with Labrie are great! about time! There was some
great experimenting on this album. Not gonna get into all that "great
debate" voice over stuff here. say what u will, the tune is intense. i
think it was created to raise eyebrows and get people to remember it.
maybe even talk about it, and hey - looks like its working. strikingly
intense tune. Shorten it up, make it into a radio single and youre in
there like swimwear. it already has moments of Tool, Godsmack and a lot
of whatever else is getting played on the air these days. Ofcourse most
of us could care less if they get airplay or not. Then again...the
controversial lyrics may be too intelligent for many out there.

as usual lots of the tunes may not be appreciated the first time
around, but then play em now and then, and u may be hooked. happened to
me with the very last song - "losing time" DT always closes there albums
out nothing short of epic. This song sounds very BIG. Great album -
great band etc etc etc. you already know that.

one more thing - goin back a bit - The guitar solo in "Lines in the
sand"...you're right! live or studio, that was a beautiful peice of
    work!!

hmmm... I'd start to suspect your CD player. Either your CD
player if "off" a bit, doesn't have adequate error correction, or
         something else...

I knew a friend who had a 5 disc player that was scratching the
CDs in the same spot (a small circle near the middle of the disc)
that would cause them to mess up eventually...

But silly arguments are still being produced in public debates; so it's just as authentic as the rest. I don't think they (DT) picked the best arguments available, rather just a statistically random chunk of arguments, some for, some against, some just silly. (I find myself provoked by some of the silliest)

Anyway, I really like this kind of selection, becasue I think it perfectly describes a debate in the media.

ps. great review! That was one really interesting read!

None of my DT (or any other) CDs skip or are scratched. Sounds like a CDPlayer issue. Sorry you are having probs, but it's not widespread.

Actually, yes. I know quite a few people who found "Overture" to be very strangely reminiscent of the theme music from everyone's favorite RPG-based video game, Final Fantasy. This is deffinetly not a bad thing. :) -eric

The new Classic Rock is in the shops now. It includes a lengthy review of 6DOiT (giving it a very favourable 4 out of 5) and an interview/feature with Mike Portnoy.

Unless there is a new promoter on the scene it's a waste of time. We did the same thing a couple years back and no interest, they even spelt DT's name wrong when they replied to the petition :(

If you read what it says on the site, it hints that they're in discussions with the band's UK promoters.

Sign the petition anyway; it can't do any harm.

The magazine "Illinois Entertainer" has a Rolling Stone music store ad featuring 6DoiT. It is paired with Britney Spears as the two highlighted albums to purchase this week. And they are selling it for $19.99. Too bad I got mine for $24. Pretty good for a "no name band." This album really grows on ya. I like it better after my 10th listen. The "scratches" on Glass Prison are very interesting. Immediatly after them is an interesting tempo change. Again the song writting is amazing. Thanks to all for not bitching this time around with set list & spoilers. Very mature of the group. I also like Mike's Lead Drummer comment. Very clever. See ya, Todd
