I'm going to be catching the Milwaukee show. I'm pretty stoked to see
Mr. Satriani in concert. I've seen DT six or seven times, so that's a
    little less exciting.

Anyone else going to the Milwaukee show? Al?

the new satch album is different why?
its like a blend of the extremist and the straighter stuff on the
self-titled album. very catchy melodies, three listens will do to sing
along. he uses 7string at times. I saw the show two nights ago, and
wasn't too keen on Matt Bissonette, but apart from that it was cool, and
the new songs were really cool live. Try it out, it's not as fancy as
    crystal planet. sab

Michael Kiske doesn't appear on the first Avantasia disc, unless you know
something I don't. Are you talking about the second to-be-released one? I
haven't yet seen a lineup for that.

Tobias Sammet does sound a lot like Kiske in some of his finer moments,

Kiske appears on the first cd as "Ernie", I'm told (I don't know his voice
well enough to be sure myself, but have been assured by more than one
    person that "Ernie" is Kiske).

I just bought a copy of LSFNY at www.hmv.com for about nine bucks
American, and it came out to about thirteen bucks total, including
shipping. Not bad for a triple-disc album, eh?

No, Michael Kiske definitely sings on Avantasia.

Hey! The other day I finally got the cd Addition by Substraction by the trio made up of Scott McGill on guitars, Michael Manring on bass and Vic Stevens on drums, with special guest Jordan Rudess on keys on 3 songs, if I remember correctly. The music could be labeled as fusion, with a sound quite similar to Attention Deficit (probably my favorite fusion band). The cd is very good, with excellent bass solos and excellent drumming. The guitar playing is very good as well, but I have to say that I don't like McGill's soloing style that much. IMO, he needs to add more melody into his solos, since it seems like most of them are just flurries of dissonant notes. It also seems like he overdoes the dissonance aspect of the notes he plays. He should get together with Scott Henderson in order to learn more about beautiful soloing in the fusion genre. Jordan's interventions are very good, with solos using a variety of sounds, including piano. Recommended.

He does and his voice is very easy to tell.
He sings on quite a few songs under the guise of 'Ernie'.
He didn't want his proper name mentioned because of his dislike for
    metal these days.

Nope take a closer listen, in the booklet it says where he is singing
    :)

hmmmm, interesting description. haven't heard the album myself as of yet, but i do have EVERY intention of getting it (have them all, save for "Flying In A Blue Dream"). his self titled was deffinetly different from his other stuff. it was more rough, gritty, bluesy, & stripped down bare-bones than his other ones. "Crystal Planet" however, happens to be one of my absolute favorites, right along with "The Extremist" & "Surfing With The Alien" (no particular order). be interesting to hear what this new one is really all about. guess i'll know soon enough.

P.S.- by the way, any Pittsburgh jammers going to the Sept.7th show?? any other jammers for that matter?? Kez, what about you bro? maybe we'll have better luck finding jammers than we did at the D.C. show!! drop a line, guys (& gals).

If you're referring to the Pier 6 show in Baltimore, I will most certainly be there. Being on a Saturday, we really should have some sort of get together. I know I-Man will also be there, as well as a few other locals. Let's hook up somehow.

"in their time" ? I think tool is their "time" right now! Lateralus IMO is genius work... of course its my opinion, but the way you expressed it made it sound like tools chops are a thing of the past :) which (imo of course) they seem to be getting even better with time...

and to the original poster : what else has been labeled as tool-like? 1 song on 6doit? wow! would you rather the project was described as sounding LTE like or DT like or "prog" like? i usually hate it when a band describes an upcoming project naming another band , it always ends up creating misconceptions about how the music is going to be like...
