Sorry, but I don't have that much sympathy for these guys. For guys who are
trying to succeed unconventonally, they are certainly measuring success in
conventional methods. I mean, how can you tour nationally when no one knows
who you are? There are plenty of bands out there, like the ones we listen
to, that have to get 3-4 albums under their belt and lots of slow,
fanbuilding stuff before they can even think about touring beyond their
borders. You need to have the followers first.

Also, expecting that your CD will be in the K-Marts or Wal-Marts of America
is a bit much. There is limited space at those places, so it is no surprise
that it didn't show up there, or that there might only be one at Best Buy.
Personally, I think they need to concentrate on finding their niche and
marketing to them. It is how it works in Prog.

Course, the biggest thing that bothers me about this article is that the guy
whines about not getting heard, and doesn't even provides a link to check
out what his music actually IS. C'mon, you spent the time writing an
article, at least tell us where we can find it. After searching on DGM's
site and clicking on a lot of links, I finally found their site and a track
to listen to. Most people won't go to that degree to find them. Looks like
    a missed opportunity for me.

The kicker is, while they are good, there isn't anything about them that is
particularly special. Pretty standard rock as far as I can tell. Maybe
they should have signed a big record deal. They might need the support to
stick out. Otherwise, I could see these guys doing well in a local club
scene. (Hell, I'd support them if they were in this area. The club bands
in this area suck for the most part.) Nothing wrong with being a good club
band, other than you aren't going to make a living off of that. Course, if
they are in it partially because they love doing it, it doesn't matter as
    much.

I wasn't so much concerned with the band themselves (or his
whining) as in all of the road blocks that he was pointing out, as
        these affect most every band.

Even then, most of the bands in our genre can't tour the US. And
even the most successful / unknown bands out there like Dream
Theater have problems booking full US tours and getting proper
promotion and radio exposure. In talking with Mike Portnoy after
the LA show, it seems like the US is a pretty tough nut to crack,
since they are playing huge places in Europe and Japan.

Yeah, same with bands that have been around for a long time, like
Fates Warning... I always see about one or two CDs at Best Buy...
and they are supposed to have decent distribution (obviously not).

Cool! The samples sound great. I can't wait for the CD. Any idea on when it will be released?

Hey Bernd! I have to say that both the Superior and the Ultima Ratio site are amazing!!! I'm really looking forward to the new album, but I still haven't found the release date anywhere. The trailer says March 12th (today), but it seems like that isn't the date because the album isn't listed on the site's online store. So when is it going to be released and how can we order it if we live in the US? Thanks for the info!

    Alexis

Just got my WDADU from CDNOW. Sounds cool! Also a very informative story on the inner cover. I never realized that Kevin Moore was Dominici's replacement ;)

Was he? I was under the impression that Moore was with the band from the get-go... wasn't he a member of Centurion, and recruited for Majesty by Petrucci/Myung? LaBrie's first name is Kevin, but he took up his middle name (James), for there were already two Johns in the band and two Kevins would be greatly confusing.

Then again, I didn't yet look at the new WDADU, so maybe that story is a little more accurate.

Nah, Kevin left the band to join The Teletubbies, a popular UK childrens TV show. He was later fired because his ideas differed severely with Dipsy's.

Man, I just gotta say, I'm still depressed about missing out on Nearfest and seeing Enchant, one of my favorite progressive bands (denoting them progressive, neo-progressive, para-progressive, semi-progressive, pseudo-progressive, chromo-progressive, bio-progressive, kitchen-appliance progressive, frog progressive, astro-progressive, pop progressive, etc, etc, etc, et al, ad naseum, ad infinitum, whatever!) who I just *happen* to be listening to my own personal 'Greatest Hit's' of theirs even as I, er... type? That's one band I pick up their newest CD irregardless of anything. Anyone who is NOT familiar with 'em, get down (tonight) and grab some Enchant CD's. Tell 'em B.A. Baracus sent ya...

Anyhow, I've been under the impression Enchant's been destined for big and great things ever since I picked up 'Blueprint of the World' and heard 'Nighttime Sky' back in '96. In my humble and fortuitious opinion, they are upper-tier level along with the Rush/Dream Theater/Fates Warning/Marillion's of the realm... now I'm just awaiting Tile's next CD and their slow but deserved climb into the progressive stratosphere. Man, what's a brother gots to do to pass the time? Oh yeah, I'm working on a new CD, myself...

"Full cover", eh? They've left out all the frills, including the "-age" on "coverage", to make it more affordable for the common man. $26! I need to get me some of that action.

What, no hyperlink to th eir site? I guess I'll have to take my business elsewhere...

Actually, my family is under explicit orders to dump my body in the woods should I depart this mortal coil before they do. There will be NO funeral expenses if I, or my vengeful spirit, has anything to say about it.

Skadz has the 'Jam set up so that only subscribers can post, right? Wonder how this one slipped through.
