BWHAHAH, thank you very much... better than that sissy James Labrie's
incessant screeching, I'll take "cookie monster" anyday.

I'm bored right now at work, so the best thing I can do is try filling up the jam with anything that comes to my mind. I believe that's a noble cause, since the jam has been suffering so much lately. Alright, time to ramble. I need a new Attention Deficit album. I don't know of any albums released this year with Tim Alexander on drums, and I need something new from him. And what better than AD? One of my favorite fusion bands. I love fusion. For some reason I'm very attracted to jazzy beats, which I love for their umpredictability. I'm amazed by how drummers can keep a beat while playing so offbeat. When is Fates Warning coming out with a new album? I hope they release something new this year. I can't wait for the new Gordian Knot. It promises to kick major ass. Isn't it amazing how Virgil Donati can have such incredible limb independence, which allows him to play totally separate rhythms with his hands and his feet? I realized that there's no way for me ever ! to become a drummer, since I lack that independence and rhythm necessary to play. Maybe I could play other instruments, although I don't know 'cause I've never tried. Actually, I think that the only thing I would be able to do well is sing, but my voice sucks for that. So I am only a music admirer, and not a musician. But that's ok, I can live with that. Would you rather be deaf or blind? I think I would choose to be deaf, because I consider vision to be more important in order to be independent in life. But it would completely suck to miss out on so many awesome things one can listen to, especially music. But I need to surf, and the only way I could do it is by having my vision, so that's very important right there. And I wouldn't want to miss out on seeing beautiful women, which I consider to be one of my hobbies :-) There's sooooo many beautiful women in Puerto Rico that it's hard to understand how there can be so many. For some reason genetics here in Puerto R! ico have conspired to create beauty almost everywhere. So, I think I miss out on a lot more things if I were blind than if I was deaf. Hey, it's almost time to leave!!!!!!!!! This rambling thing worked pretty well :-) Alright, thanks for reading my random thoughts. Let's keep the jam alive!!!!!!!

Well, let me say that I can only attempt to do growl vocals for about 10 seconds, then I feel like I've been gargling dirt, and I have to cough for a minute. I concede your point that it's difficult to do, so therefore I won't argue that they're not legitimate. However, when I listen to Opeth, I wonder to myself why a guy who CAN sing chooses not to do so? I appreciate that it's not easy to do, but I'm still not a fan of it.

Should we call them Dikembe Mutombo vocals? :)

Yup I did and I still haven't heard any vox from any extreme/black/death band that sound remotely like your so called cookie monster vox.

HAHAHA !! Excellent Basketball player reference there, Mark.
"Dikembe Mutombo vocals" may be more appropriate for Graham's liking :)

i don't know how many people on the jam have taken quite a few years to study voice, but being one of them, i'll add my bit. the growling vocals. an acquired taste?? yes. not everyone can do them?? true. takes a certain ammount of know-how to pull them off?? absolutely. takes the same ammount of talent, training, and finesse as James Labrie, Geoff Tate, Jon Anderson, Steve Perry, or even David Coverdale?? not even close. i've spent a lot of time within both genres (clean vox & growling vox), and from an unbiased musician who's studied voice & singing, one of the most important aspects of "cookie monster" (for you graham) is an endorsement from Ludens, Sucrets, or some other cough drops manufacturer. the essentials of clean singing (i.e.- inflection, phrasing, pitch, timbre) are just not in the picture here. you need to worry about not passing out & not shredding your vocal cords. that's about it. but to sing like the other aforementioned vocalist requires LOTS of formal training, unless you were born with a rare gift. does that discredit the validity of growling vocals?? hell no. but should they be placed in even the same ballpark when it comes to the level of talent between the two styles?? again, hell no. that's my bit. adios.

Well, being totally blind, I must disagree with you on your deaf bersus blind statement. I surf the web all the time using text to speech software and you can feel beauty as opposed to seeing it, which in the case of women is a rare but wonderful thing. And music sounds so much better without the visuals to get in the way. You honestly are picking the wrong sense to lose. I actually am thankful that it is my sight and not my hearing. The joy I get from music is so intense that life would be very empty without it. Or at least his autograph
Some guy had a guitar that was covered in autographs - SRV, Adrian Belew, Peter Frampton, Peter Paul and Mary, other bigger names that I can't remember, and right in the middle was JP.
