I was just reading on Inside Out Music's website about the new Derek
Sherinian. This dude makes lots of albums in short periods of time, this
one being his second solo album, then there was the three Planet X
discs.
This one has Yngwie, DiMeola and Lukather on it. It's got my
attention...
Anyone know a release date? Anyone gonna get it?

when the hell is war EVER legal. I understand diplomacy and the UN,
but let's get real here. The guy is getting what he deserves here. He
should have been removed from power 12 years ago, a mistake we won't
make twice. Most of the country may not be overtly happy about it, but
I think on a whole everyone agrees that this man needs to be removed
from power at a minimum. I don't want to turn this into a huge flame
war but think twice before putting the words legal and war in the same
sentence next to each other. Andreas, are we to take your comment
about more September 11's as a threat? Did you know that our country
actively pursues folks who make suggestive comments like that? Does
the American security machine now need to keep closer tabs on you? I
know the whole world suffers from the perils of terrorism, Bottom line
is that our country decided to spearhead a coalition of forces to seek
it out and remove it in an effort to reduce it's likelihood of
occurring in the future. It makes me sleep a bit better at night. Now
back to the music, Dream Theater RULES. Anyone wondering what they are
thinking about all of this, will there be a song with media clips from
all of this? Will we be getting a song with a theme related to all of
this? One can only wonder. Are you listening Mike????

This is an open letter to the many non-americans we have on the list.
Hey, there... been a long time reader of this list, over ten years I think.
I know that there are lots of people here from all parts of the world. Its
like Eric Johnson says "Music is the heartbridge gateway to all peoples".
Dream Theater transcends stupid boundaries of nations and speaks to us all
as human beings. Because after all, we are all human. We forget that
sometimes.
What is happening here in America is kinda scary. We have a right wing
faction that has gained considerable control of the government and a decent
majority of the media. They are using religious language, appealing to the
"us vs. them" mentality and using the attacks of 9/11 and the fear of
terrorism to solidify their political power. They are speading the lies
about Iraq to justify their war, demonizing the French for defying the US at
the UN, and shouting down anybody that questions their "dear president".
There's lots of misinformation being spread about so that's why many
Americans are saying so many ridiculous things. Many people seem to think
that just because we were attacked that we can run around the world ignoring
other nations and attacking third world countries so we can "feel safe". At
the same time the government is attacking our civil rights, running the
government into debt, and weakening our legal protections. All in the name
of security.
But there is hope. Many americans are standing up to Bush and his
fundamentalist army and they are from all walks of life. We value our
freedoms more than we fear the terrorists. We do not all think that one
American life justifies the taking of a thousand other lives. And we realize
that freedom comes from self determination, not external coercion. We know
Saddam is a tyrant, but you don't not stop a tyrannt with your own brand of
tyranny. We helped put him in power and many others like him all over the
world in our fight against "communism". Now we will create more Saddams in
our fight against "terrorism". Many U.S. christians are living more like
Christ and less like Jerry Falwell. And we know that War is not Peace. When
governments fight, soldiers die.
Thank you, please respond in private so others dont have to be troubled with
reality.

If you want people to "please respond in private so others don't have to be
troubled with reality" then don't bring it here in the first place! You
make a statement that purports to speak for the majority of the American
people and then basically tell people they should not respond to the list.
Again don't bring it here in the first place. You don't speak for us all,
you don't speak for me! Again don't bring it here in the first place. I
will not respond to any claims you have made in this post whether I agree
with you or not. Again don't bring it here in the first place. There are
plenty of forums out there for these topics to be discussed and as well as
they should be. You have the right to your own opinion but please take it
elsewhere so we can enjoy this list for what it was meant 'Dream Theater and
related topics.' Below is the introduction to the Ytsejam mailing list that
everyone gets when they subscribe:
"Welcome to YTSEJAM, the Dream Theater mailing list! This list
is for fans of Dream Theater, and will discuss them and any
related topics. (Related topics include other progressive
metal bands like Fates Warning, King's X, Crimson Glory,
Superior, Lemur Voice, Event, etc.)
Topics that are considered non-related include religion, politics,
abortion, etc. If a non-related thread lasts for too long,
the list managers may issue a warning, followed by suspension
or expulsion from the list.
Also the list managers reserve the right to reject messages,
unsubscribe users, etc. This list is paid for by the managers
and it is a privilege, not a right, to be part of it."
Thanks,
Jim

Just Chris (webmail gets kind of screwy) :) I was at Prog Power last

I spent way too much money on cds there last year! This year I'm going

No kidding! I love to watch him play. Actually I love to watch all of
them play, but bass has kind of always been my thing and it's also usually
easier to get close on his side than Michael Romeo's. :)
Dream Theater should get to Montreal, because they would love it. You
guys are awesome. :) I'm from Detroit and I went to Montreal for that SX
show, and it was one of the best crowds I've had the pleasure to be a part
of. Quebec City was pretty sweet for Dream Theater, but I think this crowd
was even better than that.

Late reply hm?
Yeah, I agree, Montreal metal / prog heads have been increasing in volume lately, and the scene seems to be getting bigger every time I head to a show. This symph X show (and the last one with Blind Guardian) were pretty sold out.
As for the DT comment, I agree they would have a blast here, but the issue of them coming here is quite simple. There are plenty of little clubs and such here and there. If DT played there, it would be a mad zoo. No breathing room whatsoever. I doubt any of the big arenas or auditorium places (which house all sorts of pop bands and stuff) would pay DT enough for it to be worth it for them to come here. Most of the NON little local club people haven't even heard of DT. So it's more that they need a bigger place than the little clubs Opeth, Planet X, Flower Kings and Symphony X play at, but not such a big place that they will lose money playing there.
You were in town just for SX? I'm touched :)
Next time you are in (like Flower Kings? they're here in June), email me, I'll show you around the lovely 'burg!

Wow, it seems some of you americans actually BELIEVE all that crap! Tell you what: The rest of the world doesn't. Your country didn't decide to spearhead anything, because these wars are not about terrorism. They are about the economic interests of a few. Terrorism is just the perfect excuse to justify this blatant expansionist agression in front of the american public opinion. And it seems so far, it is working very well.
BTW, do you know who put Saddam in power? The US. You know who put the Taliban in power? The US. You know who created Osama Bin Laden? The US. Don't come tell me now you are trying to free the world of them. There are many more extremist dictatorships responsible of state terrorism in the world. Most of them happen to be sponsored by the US government (for example Pakistan, or Kuwait). And tell me, why doesn't the US attack Israel? After all they are invading Palestine (sp?), a soberan country.

So you recognize you are living under "Big Brother"-like government control, and you are happy about it? You've got problems.
Excuse the harshness of this message, but these are harsh times. I wish, I really wish I could refrain myself of using the Ytsejam to discuss non-DT things. But I can't. This issue touches me way too deeply to just leave these kind of comments unanswered.

Where's your proof, big guy? Since you are so emotional about it, bordering on irrational, show me proof that this is all about economics. Come on. I dare you.
