Rob, I think I asked before but got no response. Who's Jadis and what's their story?

Sure! Opeth "Damnation", OSI, new SB, Arena "Contagion", The Tangent, Jadis
"Fanatic" to name a few. All are in my topten for 2003. DT and Neal's disc
      are not. Obviously. :)

I see and hear your opinion and raise you 6.03 cents. I personally loathe the post black album Metallica also, although I caved and bought Load and Reload in shameful hopes....
My friend who's a big metal / prog / prog-metal fan (i.e. likes a lot of the stuff we jammers like) says that St.Anger is quite the strong disc. I tell him to shove it ;)
In other words, I long for the old metallica.

Well, Garbage in, Garbage out as they say. I think Metalica is not fully
understanding why their sales are slipping, probably because their egos
still think they are the greatest metal band in the world. St. Anger is St.
disappinting in every aspect. The production is awful. Unconventional
technique my ass. I can produce better sounding shit in my non sound
proofed studio here. The drums are awful sounding, the guitars are barely
heard over the drums and if they are heard it is just a distorted pile of
sludge, the bass is rumble and nothing else, James is out of tune most of
the time and there are absolutely no effects on his voice at all, which
makes the whole production sound like it was recorded in a garage on really
crappy amateur equipment. I was taught once in a radio production class
that you are only as good as your last production. If that is true,
Metalica should be totally ashamed of themselves. I can live with the no
solos part, although I simply don't know why this trend even exists, what
is wrong with solos, but the sound of this album is something that any self
respecting band should never let out into the light of day. They should
have called the album St. Rough Mixes or ST. demos. And the lyrics are
silly. James, go back to drinking or drugging or whatever you did. <yes,
that's a joke before you flame me>. Honestly, I know that the days of Kill
'em all, master of puppets and And Justice for all are gone. I'd take
another black album and be happy. Hell, I'd take another Load and Reload,
at least you can hear things in those albums clearly. God, guys, you used
to be kings, now you are jokes. At least put out something that won't
sonically make my ears bleed. God, just when you think it can't get any
worse...next album is going to be all kazoos with James singing about how
exhausted he is while touring to unappreciative crowds in the U.S. who
figured out years ago that they don't have the fire anymore. Do us a favor,
go spend the time with your families and come back when you actually can
pull the cocks out of your ears and produce something that doesn't sound
worse than a Nirvana demo tape. Rant over, donning flame retardant body condom.

for one thing, the events behind in the name of god
won't suddenly be forgotten by everyone anytime soon,
the way the Great Debate's topic was overshadowed
    (understatement) by 9/11....

second, as cliche as those lyrics might be, I think DT
deserves major points for throwing the Battle Hymn of
the Republic underneath the closing moments of that
track....i mean, the great majority of the album's
buyers are going to be Christian, and you read the
lyrics, and it looks like they're talking about Muslim
terrorists....I'm not Christian, and that's the way I
took it, just in case you care....but then I heard
what was going on underneath the music at the end, and
after I got over the thought that maybe they wussed
out and wanted to balance stuff out for fear of some
backlash, I decided that it was a kickass way of
saying to those who would point at people of another
religious persuasion, "hey, it's not like you're so
    damn innocent yourself...."

as "blah" as the regular lyrics might be....that song
tok a huge leap in my estimation when I figured that
    bit out....

Battle Hymn of the Republic? That sounds familiar... what is that and where on the CD is it?

    1. It arrived this morning from Amazon.
    2. It rocks hard.
    3. It reminds us all that DT is, first and foremost, a METAL band.
    4. I'm only up to track 3 now.
    5. I think this disc features John Hetfield and James LaHetfield.
    6. I absolutely love this disc.
    7. I didn't download the album this time around.
    8. I sure would have if I could.
    9. Why? US/Euro release dates don't matter to me. I will always get it late
    in Indonesia.
    10. Now I have to find the setting for Active X controls that will allow me
to see the bonus material. I think my PC is too secure.
    11. This disc kicks ass.
    12. Thanks DT.

    cheers,

OK I know it's almost impossible to put some DT albums in front of others
    but give it a try.

Actually a few have been saying that they were disappointed with SFAM.
    It's actually my favorite album.

I'm just interested in seeing your order of favorite albums (Old and new
    ytsejammers euuhhh fogies).
I don't think we should include TOT yet until at least 6 months, otherwise I
know I can't have the retrospect.

I love them all, so here's my top 7 :
    1) SFAM
    2) Awake
    3) I&W

    Hi there,

    Damon
<I was taught once in a radio production class
that you are only as good as your last production.> is a load of crap.
What the teacher maybe meant to say is that sales are related to the quality
of the release. The songs as such don't get better with better production.

As for the new album, I am missing melodies!!!

Well, we're comparing art to money again. And the two never mix.

Absolutely... personally, I would rather they just released Blind Faith as a single with Misunderstood as a B side than the 6DOIT album ;P I'm sure that'll make me popular on the list :P

I am not a huge Metallica fan, so I will start with that. I thought St Anger was good but not great by any means. The intent was good, execution was misguided at best. I haven't listened to it after the first 3 weeks. Nothing like adding meanless banter to a dead thread.

I know Derek is no slouch. Irespect that man's ability to play the shit he does. But Idon't know if he was cut out for what DT wanted to do. Granted, FII is a favorite album of mine and LInes in the sand is great, but when you listen to him play the Kevin More material, you can tell it is just not quite right.
