Has anyone ever considered that the paid meet n greet
might be a more quality based version of what would
happen outside? Meeting performers as they go to the
bus is definatly a crap shoot, as someone already has
said, and there is no guarantee that they will spend
anytime with you, even members of DT. This could be a
guaranteed way to talk to all the members, and even
have JM say "hi" to you. Now if they stop meeting
people outside, then I can see a reason to bitch. I
hope this doesn't happen. At least give them a
chance. The value of a service is what a consumer is
willing to pay for it, and according to the UACM
letter, there are a lot of willing consumers.

Those are called "large halls" in industry parlance. They are bigger
than clubs (which range from tiny to around 2,000) but smaller than
arenas (6 or 7,000 and up).

In any event, my point was that a touring act playing large halls and
arenas -- one of the top-grossing tours of 2003, I now hear -- namely,
the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, DID take the effort to have an open, free
meet'n'greet inside after their 3-hour show here, at an arena that can
seat around 12,000 and was about 3/4 full.

Decent floor tickets for that show, BTW, were a pricey $45. With every
passing year, sadly, the number of obvious Savatage fans and metal fans
    in the audience dwindles.
The mighty Al Pitrelli was the (ahem) last in line at the after-show
signing, and as I shook his hand I said jokingly "Thanks for a great
show...from one of the few, the proud,...the metalheads who can still
afford a ticket to this show."
He chuckled, rolled his eyes and said "I hear ya there, brotha." Not
    condescendingly, either; he understands. :)

    Well,

one thing puzzles me: why do you have rows for a metal concert?

I once won a meet and greet through The Mirror, the German fanclub, and it sucked. I had met the guys previously without formalities, and even though this was kind of official, people were just rushed through signing and pictures. If I had payed for that I'd be pissed off big time.

one other thing that puzzles me: if the Rolling Stones spend most of their gate-income on deco and stuff, I can maybe understand - they are playing in front of 20000 -50000 people. DT? I'd rather see them with 1998sound, 1998 ticket and T-shirt prices. Since we have the EURO they are charging twice the amount for a shirt, but I already said that.

Oh. I forgot, I have to say good things, too. I love Dream Theater, bought all their albums and videos and will continue to go to concerts if they come to my area.

    Howdy folks,

I wonder how you guys and gals feel about what the fan clubs around the world have to contributed to what we see today with DT and their interaction with the fans. I mean, the first thing an FC does is to promise MORE interaction with the band, with a few extra bucks of course.

IMHO the whole hard core fan base was developed and supported by the FCs, because only through them can someone get really personal with the band. But has that developed also some kind of a customer-buyer relation between the fans and the band? "You pay me and I'll make you friends with the band" something like that.

I actually can't imagine if DT(or their management) would do things like that if hadn't been for some really crazy fans out there willing, and meaning the best, to make a fan club. I believe that ppl in the fan clubs should point out that to DT next time they meet/see/call them. Someone else has said earlier that we're _extorted_ by DT for being fans. I feel that it's the best word he could ever use... :o(
