Uh, congrats. You managed to miss the entire point of my post, which
was that the increasing ticket prices for TSO's show, not any of the
band's practices, are winnowing the crowd of metal faithful.

    Well done!

[anti-Savatage diatribe, including unconfirmed rumours, etc., deleted]

TSO is doing what someone suggested DT should have done on this upcoming
tour: so, you have more elaborate and expensive staging? Raise
ticket prices a bit, across the board. It was worth it for TSO's
3-hour performance and the added stuff -- LOTS of pyro, more than I've
seen at any show in years -- was pretty darn cool.

Oh, can't let this one slip by:

    > 3. After Al Pitrelli left to join Megadeth (being the band whore that he is,
    >
    > good player notwithstanding) they hired a respected metal guitarist (Jack
    > Frost) and then totally screwed him over by firing him when Pitrelli was lef
    > t
    > jobless a few months later after Megadeth imploded.

--And this differs from DT's casual dismissal of Derek
Sherinian......how? Would you rather a band abruptly let someone go
for a former bandmate returning, or for a new band-member entirely?

(Nothing against Jordan R., here, either. I don't disagree with DT's
decision to hire JR, but lord knows there was a lot
of....ahem....discussion on this very list about it.)

Can we PLEASE not start this again? They were BOTH good, and I don't want to hear any of this "so-and-so is better than the other" because it's all a matter of opinion. Jordan has better TECHNIQUE and that's IT. The rest is a matter of opinion.

Personally, while I like Jordan's solo material, I feel he's somewhat lacking on DT's stuff (note that I do NOT feel this is necessarily his fault as much as I think it's MP and JP's fault). His technical prowess doesn't do him any good when the material he's playing sucks.

heh well, wasn't meant to start up a war of words, but Andrew is right... It's all a matter opinion. In a roundabout kinda way, it's good to get some actual traffic on the list going again :)

$45 is pricey for the TSO show this year? Do you even realize how many people are involved with that show that have to get a cut of your ticket money? In addition to the 6 main band members, there are about 8 vocalist and a small local orchestra (12 People?) from each city, not even including all the crew and the cost of the Pyro and light show which gets bigger and better every single year. I have no problem paying the price they charge. If I do feel the price gets too high, I won't buy a ticket. Its just that simple. These people gotta eat you know :) You could have also bought cheaper seats but you WANTED to spend more on better seats. No one forced you, at least, I don't think they did.

Same thing goes for the New DT ticket prices. If you feel its not worth the money or that you can't really afford it, then you just don't go. It is not that big of a deal. ~YtseJim > ----- Original Message ----- > From: ytsejam@torchsong.com > Date: Tuesday, January 27, 2004 9:47 pm > Subject: YTSEJAM digest 6779 > > Paul Cashman sez: > > << Decent floor tickets for that show, BTW, were a pricey > $45.=A0 > > With every > > passing year, sadly, the number of obvious Savatage fans and > metal > > fansin the audience dwindles. > > The mighty Al Pitrelli was the (ahem) last in line at the after-show > > signing, and as I shook his hand I said jokingly "Thanks for a great > > show...from one of the few, the proud,...the metalheads who can > still> afford a ticket to this show."=A0=A0 > > He chuckled, rolled his eyes and said "I hear ya there, > > brotha."=A0 Not > > condescendingly, either; he understands.=A0 :) >>

I agree. I for one think the new ticket prices aren't a bad idea. Let the people that can pay more, pay more. Those that can't, or don't want to, don't have to. It's about choices. Choices are good.

here's my thing with $45 ticket prices: get over it. there are soooooo many bands out there that charge way more than that for nose bleed seats. a buddy of mine saw genisis on there last two tours and paid well over $100 for seats that were about 200 feet from the stage because his now ex-wife HAD to see them. another buddy of mine paid $125 a ticket to see the stones on there last tour and he was something like 30 rows back. 20 years ago i saw rush and paid $35 and was happy. my personal opinion is that any act out there that kicks ass on stage, plays for more than one hour (dt and rush concerts are unusually long compared to most), and charges around $40 is giving you a deal. my king crimson tickets in madison two years ago were $35 and they played for 85 minutes. jacko

Rick, that was a cool blast from the past. That whole series of events was a blast - from signing the banner, to the preshow get-togther, to seeing MP holding it up.

    Thanks for posting it.
