I'll report on Friday about the Toronto gig. Massey Hall is a 2,700-seat
venue with great acoustics, so I'm hoping for a great show!

I hope they don't play much Six Degrees (disc 2) material. It's strange
.. I think disc 1 of 6DOIT is my favorite DT material of all, and disc 2
    is definitely my least favorite!
    To me it felt like:
"OK, we'll experiment, stretch out, have fun, and be creative on disc 1,
including interesting use of effects and some experimentation with
production. Then, we'll write a lame story, load on the reverb, and put
Scenes from a Memory's bastard child on disc 2."

Did anybody else get that impression?

Yes, I love the band. Yes even bad DT is still good, and something I will
listen to from time to time - not to mention pay money for. I've just
always been puzzled by the huge creative, lyrical, and production
    discrepancy between the two discs.

    Chris
P.S. MD recorder and Core-sound binaurals will be with me on Thursday. :)

Ok... a few comments on what people have said about this show.

    1. Venues without seats are so much better than those with seats. You always
get the fans who really get into the music in the front rather than just the
people who happened to get tickets right away. Although the idiots always
trying to force their way to the front when there really isn't any room can
get annoying. I went to both the Minneapolis (with seats) and Chicago
(without seats) shows in the last week and I would have to say the Chicago
show was much more fun. Although the Minneapolis show was sweet too.

    2. The Milwaukee setlist wasn't the greatest, but for those you seem to
think it's a travesty that they are playing stuff off of the new cd... What
do you expect? Of course they're going to play their new stuff. I was happy
with how much old stuff they played and the fact that almost all of the old
stuff was different between the two shows. I would have loved to have gotten
the Metropolis encore once instead of ACOS twice, though.

    3. Some guy outside the Chicago show, who seemed to be part of the crew or
something, said that the length of the set basically comes down to how the
guys are feeling. Given that they had played the night before in St. Louis
and had to play the following night in Chicago, I don't blame them for
taking it easy. But that does suck for those of you in Milwaukee.

There's my comments for the year.

    Nate

    Can't say I agree Chris. I LOVE disk 2. There's something comically
theatrical about it. I rate disk 1 as not bad, but that's just my humble
    opinion.
I just spent the weekend painting the bedrooms in our house. Boring stuff
indeed, so I kicked the family out of the house, gave them some money to
spend at the local shopping centre, and proceeded to have a DT fest. Loud.
The house was rocking. Some of the songs though make you want to paint
faster that what you should, causing numerous blunders. Moral: In the
debate on whether TOT is a good or bad album I can tell you this. TOT is
not a good choice of music to listen to while trying to paint edges in a
    strait line.

    George.

I have to agree with Chris, at least about the second disc. I haven't
listened to this disc for over a year, and I'm not really missing it, though
I would still enjoy it if I did put it on, just not more than once every now
and then. Kinda the same as I don't listen to WDADU much, and I don't miss
    it.

It's funny how different people have completely different impressions of
music. I feel the exact opposite way from what Todd described here.
I've thought from the beginning that Jordan was a poor fit for this
band, and that feeling is confirmed every time I hear them play live.

Jordan is definitely, in my opinion, the best keyboardist DT has had
-technically speaking-. He's insanely fast and can wow you with his
runs, etc, but that's about where his talents stop impressing me. He
has zero feeling in his playing, and his key tones remind me of a very
talented keys player using a $20 MyFirstCasio keyboard. So
prog-generic, so light and weak, so devoid of anything approacing
"balls." Derek had faults, sure, but he had a fun stage presence,
played with more heart and feeling than Jordan ever has, and had
possibly the best keys tones I've ever heard. Listen to a Derek LITS
verses a Jordan LITS. No comparison. Derek's version had so much power
that I felt my face peeling back the few times I saw it live with him.
Jordan's playing is missing that power. Sure, he can play fast, but DT
already has members that play fast at the expense (at times) of feeling.
I never thought they needed another mechanical, robotic player, and
that's how Jordan comes across to me.

I know this topic has been beaten into the ground and I'm not intending
to start another discussion, but I was just struck by how much music is
in the eye of the beholder.

    Happy Monday everyone (ugh!)...

    Adam

a little off-topic here, but has anyone checked out the opeth dvd
"lamentations: live at shepherd's bush 2003"??? i saw it online for only
$10, & wanted to get some feedback on it before buying. granted, for only
10 bucks, i'd probably get it anyway. unless, of course, it completely
blows. then i'll find something else to spend my $$$ on. thanks.
